Default what size turbo????

i use to have DSM (talon tsi) and i ran a big 16g evo turbo on it and made good power on lower boost. i was thinking about using a big 16g evo turbo on my z. would this turbo be too small?? im looken for about 8 psi and wan more torque then anything thats why im looking at the smaller turbos. are there any pros/cons for this smaller turbo? does anyone have a recomendation on small turbos vs big turbos? i am in to drifting and track so i dont care about topend. thanks for your time and suggestions you have.

I wouldn't go smaller than a 60mm turbo. That 16g turbo is way undersized for this motor. Bolting the turbo on the car is also more difficult than a 4 cyl. Time to go study some compressor maps.

Just having the turbo isn't going to get you very far, you'll be better off just buying a good complete kit as making your own manifolds is no easy task for this motor.

well im not really too worried about the manifolds because i am a tig and mig welder and i have friends in the machining business so that wont be too bad for customizing. the 60 trim needs to be rebuilt so im just goin to start piecing everything together. what kind of waste gate should i run since i only want to run about 6-7psi. im goin to be using a stock dsm bov due to low boost. what are some things to look out for when building this kit??

That turbo is too small. What size wastegate..? You will need a couple of them, maybe twin Tial 44's to vent enough exhaust considering the size of the turbo you are talking about.

I agree. But I don't know what the OP's skills are, so if he's up for the job, then I say go for it. But, if you're really thinking about fabbing something like this up, it really is a good idea to measure twice and cut one. In other words, you have a LOT of research ahead of you.

Trim doesn't necessarily give you the sizing of the turbo. What is the sizing on the compressor/turbine wheels and housings? Is it a garrett dbb or journal bearing turbo?

A link to some guy who built his own ST turbo kit for a G35. Should give you some ideas. As for the turbo, I say go with a GT35 or equivalent.

I came form the dsm world and its obvouis you didnt do much on your talon.

Id think two evo16gs would be fine for a Z, not one. You would need some tial gates for it. I ran the 38mm on my evo 16g. Worked fine for higher boost (low boost was limited by a 18psi springs) not sure how that size gate would work down around 5-8.

But at the same time i dont know the engine bay on the Z as well to fit manifolds and these turbos and gates. Im sure there is room but it would be fun to play with.

Also in case people are wondering the evo16g as broken 460awhp on a 2.0 dsm. I would think two would be just as capable as the twins in the greddy kit.

Are the Evo 16g's bigger than normal, because the Greddy TT kit comes with twin 18g's. The Evo turbo is pretty small.

the big 16g evo turbo i think is a lil bigger then the greddy 18g not 100% tho.. i did all the free mods on my talon then aluminum 2 1/2 upper and lower ic pipes and 3" down pipe with turbo xs bov and some CL fmic....i didnt do any turbo swaps because it came with the 16g, but my friend has a 500 awhp in is talon that ran a 10.6 (his first time on a track) and hes the one that gave me the turbo. so thats why i was wondering about the 16g turbos because i know they can push some power and cause i can get them for good prices

Not really. I'm not familiar with M24, I think this may be a generic stamp on garrett and knockoff garrett turbos.

Trim and a/r are totally relative to actual sizing. Trim is relative to the wheel inducer/exducer sizing and only means much if you have the actual exducer sizing on the compressor and turbine sides. I'm assuming you mean the compressor is .60 a/r, but you still need to know what size it is.

Is it a T3 or T4 turbo?

Its all good, My setup on my talon was a small 16g, comp cam 100s, big fmic custom done), TRE tranny, full 3" exhuast, afc for tuning, walbro 190 pump, 550cc injectors and thats pretty much it and made 340awhp and went 12.12@112 I then switched to a evo 16g, 650cc injectors, 255 pump, custom chip with two step and afc for tuning. And never got it to the dyno or track before it broke again and i stopped dumping money into it and went with something where id have no money (350z)

It is the turbo from the evo3, not the new evo. And yes they flow right at if not a little more than the 18g. But Greddys is a little different than the ones straight from Mitsu. So not really sure, but im sure they would be very comparible.
