Default 500whp+ and looking for traction on the street?

We just installed a set of Toyo R888's on a customer's 500whp+ APS TT that we tuned a while back. We have used DOT Race tires on street cars before, but until recently, they were only availabile in 18 inch sizes.

Finally the R888's are available in 19's, so we put a set of 235/35/19 (nothing else available) and 295/30/19's on a set of Volk GTS 19X9.5 and 19X10.5. The new R888 is one step above the legendary Toyo RA-1

This thing hooks up 95% in 1st gear, and 100% in gears 2-4. On the street, you can take some rediculous liberties with the gas pedal and the steering wheel. It's just a retarded amount of traction for the street. This NOT designed to be used as a drag radial, rather, its a road race tire. But it sure does hookup nicely on the street.

We have run the 18's version on a GTR and put about 6000 street miles on them....still have quite a bit of tread left. Obviously, this is a DOT race race, so treadwear is 80, and don't expect a ton of miles out of them.....but should be great for the 6 month summer/fall driving season. I will report back after the customer has put 5000 miles on the, and we'll see how they are wearing. I am getting about 10K street miles from our Pilot Sport II's, so I could live with a 6-7K change interval, in exchange for 100% traction.

Just some more options out there, for guys looking for good street traction to control all this power!
Edit: Warning...not a very good wet tire...so be careful in the rain.

the 235's on the front look funny on the 9.5 wide rim (not a fan of that pulled back look), and the backs look like they're going to rub in high cornering load situations, crappy offset? Definitely a great tire though...

^The rear offset is too aggresive and the front tire is too jdm. haha. Tires should be a blast though.

This is so yesterday news!

With 295's on a 10.5" rim you need approx a +30 with about 1.3 neg camber and fully rolled fenders if your dropped and this car needs a drop.

I went with an 18" rim up front and a 275/35/18.

I thought about these but am concerned with the crazy Chicago Climate. We'll get days in the spring and fall where at night the temp drops below 45 degrees (yea and then during that day is 105mph).....
These R-compunds right? Anyone know how bad they'll crack even sitting in cold temp not driving but sitting in my garage on the car?

Sorry Jet, I didnt realize you were using the R888 on a 19 incher. How do you like it?

No rubbing...rear fenders are rolled. If I had my choice, we would use a 245 front, but they don't make one in the R888. It's an aggressive offset for sure, and the customers can't have his car any lower than this.

Where is the best place to get these tires? There is only one Toyo dealer near me and I went to him a couple weeks ago asking about getting these and he looked at me like im stupid and said they are special order only, and it would take six months minimum. Any info on where to buy some?

The difference between my 295 ADVAN Sport street tires and these are night and day. With 565whp (prob about 530 on your dyno) I got no traction at all 1-3rd. I did get traction in 4th. With these tires I get some tire spin in 1st, but none in 2nd - 5th.

People are going to have to start switching to 18" fronts like I did for correct tire sizes. you can go with a 275/35/18, or a 255/35/18.

Forgeline has these tires very cheap. I don't know if Sharif can match these prices or beat them. http://www.forgeline.com/tires/r888.html

Here is something I found on cold weather and Toyo R compounds. http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/TireStorage.pdf

The R888's are catching on. I am curious to see how long they will last on street driven cars.

Jet, how many miles are on yours?

Very interesting and informative. I'm soon to be FI and I'm about to get new tires in a couple of months. If these tires last about 7 months on the street that would be perfect. My T1rs last a year and a half and that was abnormal for me considering any other tires I tried I would have to replace in about 6 months time.
