Default V-3 Compressor available for G/Z Vortech Systems

Just got an email from Vortech:

Thank you for your interest in Vortech Superchargers. The V3 may be ordered in new 350Z/G35 supercharger kits. Be sure to specify a V3 compressor upon ordering.
Not having to worry about oil lines seems to be a big plus... especially if you're considering the kit... any opinions? reliability?

I have no idea what a V-3 is since it's not on their site. What does it offer and what are the specs and cost?

does it have self contained oil or something?

Home page of http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/ comes up with V-3 info, for me at least...

and this should be a direct link:

V-3 Superchargers with Internal Oil Reservoir

not sure how price compares to the other compressors, though...

ah ok, I was going straight to their superchargers page and saw V1, V2, V4, etc, but no V3. Guess they just haven't updated that page yet

looks like they're all Si and T-trims

Nice. Guess there's no reason to even consider Procharger anymore.

That's what I was suspecting... in your view, is this something to wait for - as far as watching for customers' long term experience with the new V-3 unit? Any kinks that might need improvement?

I don't know, IMO I'm not really sure the blower absolutely needs it's own oil. I understand it keeps things simpler with less oil lines etc and can seperate the engine from the blower completely as far as preventing damage from one happening having an effect on the other.

IMO I think sharing the oil works just fine though. If you check and change your oil regularly, monitor your coolant for heavy oil spots and change it every couple years, have an oil cooler, and have an oil temp gauge to keep an eye on the oil temps, I really don't think the blower having own oil source is really justified. Just get a bigger oil cooler or oil pan and do a better job at maintenance

neat option though for the people that really want it though

Cool... yeah call me paranoid, but not having to tap the oil pan seems great, especially when Stillen's bragging about "ease of install"...

i think the only reason stillen sells the roots blower is because you have to buy their ugly hood as well

I think this is a great way for users to garentee any blower will get repaired under warrenty. The only thing u can do wrong now is overspin it. The self contained oil is a great idea

In regards to proving themselves, as I have mentioned in my own thread, this is nothing new for Vortech. They have just been doing the self-contained under their sister company Paxton as the SL Novi which is the same exact case as the V2 and now the V3.

Hey guys,

The gear cases (Vortech/Paxton) are not identical, but the bolt patterns are the same on some of the units. The V-3 is an Si Trim.

If you plan on taking your Z/G to the track I'd recommend the V2 with oil lines, they run a bit cooler.

If you track your Z/G a lot and have an oil cooler setup the oil temp in the blower would be more stable on the oil feed units. If your Z/G is a street car and you take it to the track every once and a while the V-3 will work just fine. We tested the V-3 at the drag strip last summer and the oil temps looked good.

You're welcome. I'd say stick with the SC Trim that comes in the kit for a stock block.
