What does the cat do?

Does she hold the belt in place?

By the way is it possible to install a blowoff valve between the charger and engine? A blowoff valve, connected to boost controller, that can adjust the pressure and airflow so that you can have less boost for daily driving and more boost at track? Thanks.

That's the secret behind the 50% HP increase.......there's a small billet cage with a hamster wheel in it......she runs and the car flies

Oh yeah, now that several people have installed it or have other people install it, is it possible as a DIY? Especially with tips and config info from people on this board?

I suppose it's possible.......but i don't think it's necessary........the boost is linear........so you never reach maximum boost until the highest RPM's.........for daily driving, i usually shift around 3-4K RPM's.......so i'd have to roughly estimate that boost at that RPM is around 3-4 psi

The instructions are VERY good.......it should be possible to install, with the proper tools........the tuning though is a different story.......you need a dyno for that.........i'm having mine installed by an ATI certified shop so i can retain the 3 year warranty

Guess it's a more complicated than a DIY project can be.

Unless you are extremely knowledgable and have access to all the tools and testing equipment necessary you may want to look at a reputable shop to install. They say 8-10 hours with hand tools but that's B.S. I was so jazzed with the kit I requested Saturday delivery to get started. Once I opened the box and browsed the instrcuctions, I knew better.

Eric, my installer is still putting togther notes on what issues he encountered in the install. We will publish shortly. He did not find the instrcutions that clear at all.

Update on the Squealing belt thanks for all the input. After having Jeff at Performace Nissan and his guys take a look and confirm we didn't install anything incorrectly I've emailed Mike Mahaffey at Altered Atmosphere to contact ATI on our behalf on this situation. Mike advised he would contact them on Monday. Jeff has an ATI on his C5 and he bascially went through the same situation which was corrected by a change in the serpentine belt installed on his car.

P.S. I am in a duty 4X4 in Yolo County for a week. I may try and run it to Fremont tommorow and open it up. I only have 50 miles on it since picking it up.

Don't do the SC Gary don't do it (cuz I want to be faster! J/K)

P.S. any update on where yours is at?
Cool...
Your gonna be faster than me anyway

Mine is supposedly on the way to AA as of yesterday. I'll admit that I'm getting tired of waiting, so this thing better be worth all the hassle. Mike says it should be there early next week. If it does arrive, I'll have to wait until next weekend to pick it up though. So if I get back home Saturday afternoon and start on it, I can get it finished on Sunday....then back up to AA asap for tuning.

ATI...two strikes....one more and your out! Make it happen this time!

My car ain't right and FFP is closed till Monday and I am a little miffed. I'm keeping it off the board (the details though till I talk to FFP because ATI is gonna have to make this right or I go ZEX mode on them.

Paolo does your IC go to the pass side or centered? It should just bracket one.

I missed a meet today zfest.org because of this issue too.

Default Blow -off valve

EJ.

Basically the pressure bypass valve that ceom with the ATI and almost any othere SC kit is essentially a "blow-off" valve.

Main difference is how that valve is controlled. The valve on an SC , when used as a "bypass" is controlled as either "on or off" and is not regulated in an "analog" fashion to regulate boost.
Off when throttle opening demans >0psi, on when <0psi is needed (most of the time when not accelerate, shifting or cruiseing).

It should be possible to modulate the supplied valve or replace it with more controllable valve.

If one desired more TQ "down low" in the RPM band, the pulley could be made smaller (to increase the relative boost slope) of and then use modulation of the "bypass valve" to "clip" peak boost to the desired maximum level.

This would be desirable to improve acceleration if the vehical were heavier ,such as a truck towing a trailer).

but since the Zs have traction issues at launch , haveing a bunch of extra TQ down low may not be all that productive.

Default Centered intercooler

Max, my intercooler is centered. Does it need to be more toward the passenger side to avoid the hoses hitting into the bumper ?

Cool deal, but i thought i remembered reading somewhere that bypass routed the air back into the intake piping at some point. That need to be changed in order to make that set-up work, right?

Yeah, stock the Z has plenty torque off the line, not sure i'd intentionally want to try and get more......as it is, i plan on running on street tires at the track, cause i know with slicks i'll kill the clutch real quick-like

My car lost torque but gained mid and top.

I like the launch analogy I will trap around 117mph

Paualo center it.

good luck with the traction
