Sounds like you are able to do all the work yourself so at least it wont be so costly. Im not in that position or I would definitely go for it.

If anything, just tell the cops it came stock like that, I wouldn't doubt if they believed you

Good luck with your build. What's it going to be? 4.2 and APS or something else. What are your hp goals?

I have been running around with this set-up in Cali for awhile(not as flamboyant a few years ago but still twin turboed). Pulled over 13 times, a few tickets, one of them a ref ticket. I'm still rollin around We had one customer who was so worried he had us mount the BOV in the front bumper, powerdercoat the charge piping black and we even utilized his stock air box so the charge pipe ran though it to the intercooler. When you popped the hood you couldn't even tell it was twin turboed

No emissions test for 6-7 years on new cars 13 times is alot but most of the tiee it is for no front plate or tinted windows. I got more speeding tickets when it was N/A for 6 months then it being turboed for three years If you are smart, you can get out of a ref ticket for alot cheaper then you think. You have to get creative and ofcourse lie a little but it can be done

Boy your taking a risk with that kind of car in Sac. I always drive slower when I go to meets there but that ain't no fun either. Most of my buddies live there and 3 of them have already been stopped and ticketed for minor things but they always ask for the hood to be popped.

Good luck on the build, Sam is a great guy.

Yea I understand what your saying, but man...I just couldn't help it. Once I stepped into Sams shop...I just wanted to do it all But even though I only drive the car on weekends, I still need to be cautious. Id hate if I got a ref ticket, that would honestly just suck *** Well, all I can do is hope for the best! and keep on boosting

yeah getting having to go to the state ref is no fun. And the visual part of the test is the hardest to pass. Depending on where you go the Ref can also be a dic. Everything that is aftermarket needs an EO number. And for the guy in SAC getting boosted good luck. Once the CHP hears the BOV it's over. So to op i say get something legal. If you get caught, you're going to have to remove all the "illegal" parts, and make an appointment to see the State Ref etc. It's just not worth it.

This is wrong.

Look up the California government plan acronym C.H.E.A.T.E.R.S.

I'm suprised that no one has mentioned me in this thread.

To the OP, I have been very unfortunate in one occasion where I was forced to take my turbo system off after I attended a meet down in San Diego. The cold part about it was that I was nowhere near my car as I was 150 feet away eating. The cops rolled-in on the very organised and mature get together and told everyone to pop their hoods and stand next to their cars.

I tried to wait them out but eventually, the cops had the tow truck drivers break into my car.

Overall, I tried to defend myself and even went to court with a lawyer. The cop suggested to the judge to give me no quarter and I was told I either had to take the system off and bring it back in to compliance; sell the car or have the car impounded and a warrant issued for my arrest.

I ended taking it off and GTM was the company who did the uninstall and detune which wentr very smooth and the car passed. A few months later' I got my car back to the way I wanted because this is my passions and something I love and once you go boosted, you CAN NOT go back unless you're a b1tch! There isn't even any proof that our cars cause global warming anyways.

So yes, the threat is a clear and present danger. Lucky for me I have another car which reduces my Z's exposure. General rule of thumb is to stay away from MOST meets, don't drive fast or recklessly, have a radar / laser detector, watch your rear view every few minutes, drive in the middle of the freeway or street to turn off ASAP if you see police and when coming to intersections, as you pass, look for any police that might merge in later behind you. Some people may think I am paranoid but they need to shut up as I spent $4,000 during the whole ordeal.

Hey Blu

I did come across your story in one of my searches. It totally sucks what you had to go through and that's exactly what Im worried about. I'm inclined to go with a more legal set-up but it's going to be expensive to get big numbers with a supercharger. Also, if I do spend the money, I hope I will be happy with the performance as compared to turbos.

Can you claify or provide a link on the C.H.E.A.T.E.R.S. thing you were talking about. I haven't been able to find anything on it.

Also, now that you were popped, is your vehicle going to get flagged for inspection each time you come up for smog or is it as though it never happened??

Thanks for your input.
