Time for a rebuild on built motor
A few weeks ago on our second run down the dragstrip we lifted the head on our Z. We knew we were pushing the limits of our build last year when we added direct port nitrous to our set-up. It ran around 18-20 pounds of boost and up to 175(mostly ran between a 50 to 100 shot) shot of nitrous. We built this engine about 5 years ago so I wasn't to surprised when it "went". The good news is that we trapped 130 mph with our larger tire set-up and no nitrous. our previous mph was around 124 without nitrous but on a smaller diameter tire. Very promising mph, we believe this improvement is solely due to the addition of the halltech. We, will know for sure when we are up and running again. The bad news, upon teardown we found that one of the spark plugs had come apart and damaged the piston as well as the head. We also found that one of the dowels on one of the cams had "ovaled". We will be rebuilding with new rods and pistons, stg 3 bc cams, upgraded springs and 1mm larger valves, l19 headstuds, and HKS head gasket. We will also hone the cylinders and have the head machined for the valves and true the "deck". Should be a little stronger set-up than the old build. I know I am probably forgetting some of the details so feel free to ask. Also wanted to thank Hal and Greg at Injected performance for his help. Can't wait to get the Z up and running again to see if it can break into the 9's with the halltech. Jason

Alberto, you are correct. No sleeves. It's funny if you think back almost 5 years. Product was non existent(sp?). We had to create alot of our own parts back then. The old setup was stock head gasket and "base" arp head studs. We also had alot of trouble back in the day trying to get the e-manage blue to work correctly( the only thing available at the time). I can remember many days at the dyno from 10 in the morning till 10 at night with few breaks for ample cool down trying to get the "blue" to hold a tune. That alone had to torture our engine. This gave us a chance to inspect our original build and definitely made me realize just how far our community has come in such a relatively short time. On a side note we are not going to sleeve during this rebuild. Hope to get another 4-5 years out of this motor(fingers crossed). Thanks, Jason
Amazing using the parts you did (only choice at the time) and the fact that we know its been abused and made serious power it lasted that long. Longest proven motor success IMO on the forums.
OT: ever rebuilt or replaced the Greddy turbos? If so at what mileage?

Alberto, Thanks again. We had the turbos rebuilt i believe 3 or so years ago. Eric would remember the exact timeline. Had a shop upgrade them to roughly a 20g. I don't know the mileage this was done at. To be honest I am not sure how many miles are on our Z right now. I know it is very low. However almost all the miles are dyno pulls, drives to car shows or dragstrip. I guess I couldn't say just to church and back if I were to ever sell it
. Peak boost at our altitude is about 22-23 pounds. Can pull a few more pounds of boost but our gains are minimal at best. Jason

Out with the old in with the new. Ground breaking back then the things you were doing! With all the options you have now...I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. I was sooo jaw dropped to watch that Z pull away from me like I was in neutral. I really want to do most of my rebuild when the time comes, but man you guys do a soild build! Perhaps I can just sit in when it's being done.
Good luck Jason and Eric, it's gonna be awesome (again) when your done.

Thanks Sean. Appreciate all the support over the years. Let me know when you are ready to do the build. I am sure we can work something out. On a side note I believe Eric is going to be in the shop working on the Z sat. if you want to drop by and grab the DR's. Give him a call if you are going to stop in. Jason
Thanks guys. As far as power goes It was around 610rwhp on the dyno years ago. However that is corrected and we are at altitude so it is an inflated number. By how much is always a big debate and not really of great importance to us. The last few years we ran on reflash and adjusted our nitrous jets at the dragstrip. Our best run last year is in our sig and was running on a 50 shot. Z weighs around 3650 with driver. I am not sure which pistons Eric ordered. I am not at work today but hopefully he will see this thread and chime in with info. Thanks again, Jason
Thanks for sharing. Was this the same car that once started out a street car? How many miles total are on that engine? That's been a very reliable test car for you...good work.
thanks sharif. This is our second car. Our first Z was a silver stock block supercharged back in 03. Most people only know of the current one which is an 04 base model that we tore down and built brand new back when new. As mentioned above I should ,but I don't, know the mileage. I will have to take a look on Monday when I am back in the store. Thanks again, Jason
