catch can question
Okay, I need your input. Is a greddy catch can or any catch can going to catch all the oil if there was no baffle inside to collect the oil? Will it catch any oil or is it useless without the baffle?
I believe the amount of oil vapor filtered will vary depending on the amount of surface area that the oil has to condense upon. The more there is, the more oil will condense out.
I'd have to disagree with you slightly, George.. I use the homemade air/water seperator catch can method from the DIY section, and there is no baffle in it. It certainly does catch oil.
Now others have put steel wool or other material for oil vapor to condense on and have reported marginally more oil caught then before, but regardless, the lack of a baffle does not make your catch can "just a pretty can in your engine bay". At least not with the homemade version. That being said, I will probably try it out with some steel wool soon, to see if it makes a noticible difference.

Since the home made version is already a filter in itself, it will work better than the traditional after market can which is shinny aluminum with just 2 hoses going into it.
Hope that clears up what I meant
