Here's my breakdown

Turbo Kit: 5500
Boost Controller: 600
Turbo Timer: 100
Exhaust: 1100
Install: 2000ish
Tune:500ish
Heatwrap:150ish
Plus another 400ish in miscellaneous labor.
Utec (used): 600
This list doenst include a new clutch and flywheel, a built motor, gauges, heads, cams, etc.

I basically dedicated myself to work so I could have my car the way it is now.

A new 350Z..around $30k. + F/I...around $20K.

I love my Z. I would kill for F/I. But if I had $50K, $20 of which was in cold, hard, cash I would either:
1) not buy a Z.
2) pay off my Z.
+1. I know there are a lot of cars in the 50k range I would rather own instead of an FI Z. I hope those who choose to go FI don't find themselves in extreme debt because of it.

So what about supercharegers? Are those just as exspensive as turbos when it comes to extras that are needed?

Theres really no secret here. If its something you really want, there are two ways; get a high paying job, or quit frittering money away on beer/lattes/going out to dinner/clothes etc. As far as costs go, its nothing you cant find out by checking a few vendor sites and speaking with some vendors or shop owners themselves.

As far as the whole credit card arguement, I'm sure its true, but can the same not be said for people who have crazy home theater setups, or huge wardrobes, or who go out to eat all the time? So sure, you could say, "Yeah, FI's cool, but 1/2 of those who have it also have debt", but in that sense its really no different than a lot of things in life these days (for better or for worse).

For me personally, it would have been very difficult for me to put my setup on a credit card, mostly because I don't even have a credit card in the first place.

Not when ya don't have credit...
I almost bought the greddy TT kit on CC (for $6100) went to vegas, went broke came back to find out the the same freakin kit is now $8200.. Had my chance and i missed it .. Honestly all the guys i roll with have purchased turbo's, wastegates and pretty much anything that's wasn't custom on a CC.. So agreed CC seems to make dreams come true..

There's nothing wrong with having a credit card. I buy just about everything on a CC and pay it off every month. My AMEX gives me cash rewards and tons of buyer's protection (warranties doubled up to at most an extra year, return protection, etc.). No annual fees. Also, not having a CC means your credit history could be poor when you apply for a mortgage or car loan down the road.

The kit is about $1k cheaper , and you don't need a few of the mentioned parts. Install may be a few $$ cheaper too. Another part needed for both that wasnt mentioned is Radiator, and oil cooler.

How do you go about getting sponsored? Is that even a realistic goal for the average joe?
