$40 buck is the least of your problems. Laying out all the wires is gonna be a *****. Awesome work man, I bet you can make a Lambo out of a mini cooper. lol. Great work.

If you need any help with the wiring let me know - I know a thing or two about the electronics in these cars and I'm not too far away. I would love to check out the project and help in any way I can.

I also have a garage full of random G35 parts if you need anything (ECUs, BCMs, IPDMs, etc.)

Keep up the good work. Would be super cool if you could get awd on this car, but that be more work. Are you going to add the 350Z Bose radio or you going custom?

May want to use a 2k epoxy instead of gorilla glue. It will never break in the future like the glue probably will with the pressure of everyday use.

Loving this project!

If you have any questions about autobody products Id be happy to help.

Thought about awd, but not this time maybe on the next car. Im going full custom on the radio. Thats another chapter yet to start in this project.

Thanks for the advice, I dunno if you have ever used gorilla glue, but its a locally made product and trust me its PLENTY strong. Those pieces are not coming apart.

So looks like everything is going smooth so far, hopefully it stays that way, so now its off to the shop to get mated up with the engine and mounted to the car stay tuned, more updates to come tommorrow!

sweet is the tranny a manual or auto?

Are you gonna put nav on custom stereo? Because I would think it be really cool if you get a GTR style system working on your car to add that extra touch of customization. Keep on the good work.

well it would be cool if you could do that. I got a computer(all you need to do is get a compact case as the current is to large for a car), more space if you find the space low, and a touch screen.

Ha ha well here ya go:

Unfortunately my friend was unable to make it up to my shop today to help me with the welding so I went ahead and got the motor ready and decided to test fit it with the mount kit.

Pulled her out of the corner with our pallet jack, got the hoist leveler bolted to her:

Picked her up and dismantled the damaged portion of the bottom, the remains:

Damaged G35x upper oil pan to the left, 350z to the right:

Think I should swap in the G35x baffle?

The only damaged parts left on the motor, the front timing cover and crank pulley, which I have both:

A little look at the extremely clean bottom end:

Size: 86.5 KB

Temporarily reassembled bottom end for fitment purposes:

Put the new shifter bracket onto the trans, which was a *****. Its no wonder VQswap.com has had complaints about fitment. Had to bend this sucker a bit to get it to line up properly. Luckily I got this kit CHEAP since I didnt buy from them directly.

Started to get her all nestled in when we realized the arms that go between the motor mounts and the motor on a G35 would hit the frame rails:
Name: IMG_2013.jpg
Views: 474
Size: 90.2 KB

So back out she came, for removal of the arms:
Name: IMG_2016.jpg
Views: 387
Size: 61.7 KB

After removing the manifolds, removing the arms and temporarily bolting the manifolds back on, back in she went:

Here she is all positioned awaiting for her front mounts to be made:

Transmission is all mounted with the swap kit cross bar:

Size: 63.2 KB

Shifter is positioned in the stock hole:
Name: IMG_2026.jpg
Views: 369
Size: 92.9 KB

But, I am concerned about the angle the shifter is sitting at, might have to cut it and re angle it to be level:
Name: IMG_2027.jpg
Views: 346
Size: 71.0 KB
Not sure if thats how its supposed to sit , this is VQswap.coms pictures theirs looks more level, another fitment issue possibly? Looks like the angle is off the way they welded it looks like I will have to cut and weld to fix it.

Pics of the room I have for turbo:

As long as the manifolds bend the same I think any kit can fit really, The manifold on the drivers side just perfectly curves around the steering knuckle, so as long as that bend stays there Im golden.

Re: the windage tray, for some reason Nissan installed them differently between the V35/Z33, at least on all the motors I've taken apart.

IIRC, the V35s had the tray bolted to the upper oil pan, and the Z33s had them bolted to the main girdle (the oil pans were different, too; you could see the posts in the Z33 parts where the tray would bolt up, but they were neither drilled nor tapped from the factory). Apparently they use the same girdle though, as you can see in your G35x engine, it has drilled/tapped holes for the tray.

I've modified your pics to show what I'm talking about:

Although from these pics, you can see that the G35x trays are different, because of the oil pan clearancing for the AWD. You could try to swap it over (obviously custom work is no issue for you at all).

Let me know if you'd like a Z33 one, I'm sure I can find one around the shop from a core motor.

Do you feel there would be any benefit to using the V35 one vs the Z33? Also do you know if the 350z mounting arms are different than the G35?

I haven't looked at them side by side in a while, so I can't quite recall what the exact differences are besides mounting locations. Really either one should work just fine in your car, since they do in their respective locations in both Z33/V35.

I believe the interior of the G35 and 350z pans are the same with respect to the mounting locations for the tray, but as I said the 350z pan does not have the drilled/tapped holes from the factory.

Personally, if I was putting it back together I'd grab a Z33 tray and bolt it in to the factory place (on the girdle) just...because, I guess. The engineers at Nissan that designed the VQ had a reason to put it where it was on the two different engines (maybe the 350z one is closer to the crank because the car is expected to be tracked, driven hard...who knows). Just my opinion though.
