Default Damper?

Hello...I was watching some best motoring videos and saw that most of the car has some sort of damper...

The questions is.do they mean engine damper or something about a performace part such harmonic damper. I searched but didn't find anything..

Do this harmonic damper makes some HP??

Thanks

A harmonic balancer goes on front of the crankshaft and helps reduce
harmful vibrations also known as harmonics. These are harmful to the
entire engine over time. Here is a place for information:
www.fluidampr.com This info will better explain it for you.

Not used specifically for a horsepower gain, more for keeping an engine together

We try to keep them in stock,

For my engine, that has been fully blueprinted and balanced in a rotateing assemblly, it wont make a difference, will it?

Yep, it will. As each cylinder fires, it sends a shock down each respective rod. This pulse in turn gets transmitted to the crank at different parts of the combustion cycle. These shock waves reverberate off eachother creating complicated patterns along the crank.

That's why some people that weren't dampened have found hair-line cracks along the crank. These cracks have a tendency to 'walk' their way back down the crank and get worse. The dampener attemps to cancel out these reverberating 'harmonic' shock waves.

Doesn't really have anything to do with balancing or blueprinting. People do that to safely raise redline...

I didn't explain it very well, hopefully someone can explain it better... But that's the jist.

350zgunnar: I would be even more inclined to run one on a built motor. In fact, that is my personal rule of thumb: stock motor = can get away with stock pulley. Built motor = aftermarket damper (Fluidampr or ATI).

Thanks Hal for the info..so this is basically a insurance for the engine.

Does it worth it using it on a stock motor?
