Aside from inspecting parts for stress cracks and other defects is there anything wrong with purchasing used setups to keep the $ down overall.

Are you talking about used FI cars, or used FI kits or what?

If you're talking about using a used turbo kit there is a thread in here regarding that topic with lots of information in it, search for it.

If its a turbo kit check the headers for cracks at the welds (well anywhere in the exhaust). Depending on how many miles are on the kit, might want to have the turbo's rebuilt (bearing seals), not too expensive and just added insurance.

That's because the new turbos for them suck, from what I've heard. I've seen them and they're supposed to be a custom-spec Mitsu turbo but it doesn't even look as good as a Mitsu turbo . . . I've been told there have been fitment and other issues with these new turbos APS is using to CUT COSTS.

used SC here with 0 issues, but beware. it is almost guaranteed something is going to be missing. If your lucky its minimal, but the headache almost isnt worth it. Be very careful who you work with, some used setups you may be able to go FI ttuned and installed under 6k with good power, then again, you may spend a hell of a lot more for the mistake....

Definitely need to have all of the parts. Otherwise, the nickel and dime and running around is gonna add up quickly.

Used kits have some advantages. It all depends on who you are dealing with.

I have never ever bought a SINGLE thing off of these forums that was 100% as advertised. Laptop, Meth Kits, HKS Nav, etc etc.

It all worked with some work, but none of it as advertised ever.

i also think it depends if you are doing the install yourself. Most shops will not touch a used kit. You dont wanna bite off more than you can chew if you dont have a full set of tools.

i'd probably never buy a used kit. A burned up turbo will negate any savings.
