ATI Concern With A 5AT
LAST POST FOR ME ON THIS THREAD (I think)
DaddyZ,
You’re correct about the FX35, however from a development and testing standpoint that would be a different "system". As you pointed out it has less power and exhibits different behavior. ATI is aware of shifting problems with AT's (as I stated in my previous post) but they should be able characterize how it impacts each solution they are going to provide BEFORE they put it on the market. They should also clearly communicate this to potential customers. Most AT’s that have problems with FI have more to do with undesirable shift points and soft shifts not the inability to shift at all until the rev limiter is hit. One thing ATI clearly states in the manual you should not do. I didn’t get the manual until 3 weeks after the install and that’s when I found out about plug changes and the 500 mile oil change. My installer didn’t give the manual, the oil, or my removed parts to me until I requested them (still no parts). I’ve been around FI for almost 20 yrs. I am fully aware of the risks involved with it and the amount of tuning necessary to get custom applications to work. I also have seen several “kits” in the last 5 yrs or so that are for a large part install and forget it. That is what I thought this kit was and that’s how it was sold to me.
BlownG
I just want to make one thing clear:
I believe ATI wants to put a good product to market. I have spoken with ATI technicians several times now (only to ask questions) and they have been nothing but helpful and courteous. My main complaint is the complete lack of information from my installer and ATI to make an informed decision prior to this purchase.
