PowerLab/APS poll
Guys ive been looking into going FI for over a year now. Im looking at the APS twin tuner kit with external gates or the powerlab GT35r single.
My goals are 340-350 WHP on a dynodynamics (car put down 235whp on a DD as it is now, NA). This is for a year untill i build then go for around 470-500WHP.
Ive searched and read every thread on the two kits and know what the differences are but would just like a quick idea of what the FI comunity would do if they were me!
Thanks for voting guys as its starting to drive me nuts thinking about what to go for. LOL...

Different powerbands and experiences between a ST and TT. Those things have been explained to death. I have had both, once you go twins you never go back...BUT both options are great, as the Powerlab is leaps and bounds better than the TN kit that was on my $hitbox.

The money issue is not what will make my decision. Sigles are normaly the cheaper option but that is not the reason im looking at the PL kit.
This is NOT a "what kit is better" thead. All im interested is if you guys could do it all again would you take the PL kit or the APS.
Thanks for the help in voting guys.

The money should be about a push. I will say APS because thats what I will be running (assuming my build is ever finished). The PL kit is the hottest thing around right now and is one of the few singles left on the market.

I love APS for it's OEM-like quality, but I have to say I was impressed by the power curve of the Powerlab GT35R kit I tuned last week. The powerlab kit is tight though, and you will likely have issues with rattle/rubbing components. Check out the powerlab gt35r writeup on our blog. The kit makes power all the way to 7000 on a revup, and was at full boost when I would start the dyno pulls at 2900rpm. There is a dyno chart at that link showing the spool.
The two things I think you need to answer is how much time you want to spend installing (or paying to have it installed), and what your plans are down the road. The single turbo is significantly easier install, but the APS extreme twins will have more power potential if/when you build in the future.

If that's all the power you'd like to make get the single and maybe even talk with Forged or whoever you go with and they may even spec the turbo a little differently for the modest amount of power you're looking for. This way you get the best overall power curve for your boost. The APS twin turbo like most twin setups will be a pain to install on top of it all.
But let's put that all aside… If you just don't care about spending the extra money, twins is the way to go for efficiency. Just doesn't make sense to go with the APS with what you're giving everyone.

First off, the OP is in the UK - possibly Envy Performance?
Secondly, I believe the PL kit is actually ~$450 more than the APS TT kit (comparing Intense to Z1Motorsports), now if you are comparing the APS Extreme kit to the PL kit, thats a different story, but I don't think the OP was talking 600+whp.
Third, APS is known for great fitment, its the PL that people have to massage to get a good fit.

APS are known for oil leaking turbos and numorous other problems. I know of one APS owner who has replace his turbo three times due to oil leaking. Talked to several shops and they hate when customers come-in with an APS kit.
BTW: Take some time to search & read and you'll find a $hit load of info on all the kits.

i saw that Hal, great write up and tune!.
THats great power @ 10 psi AND LEST NTO FORGET THIS IS A DD, so dynojet probably 490-500whp? maybe greg or hal can confirm this.
OP this shows you that out the box the PL kit was able to put those numbers, Hal just had to Haltech there to unleash the power
tial parts, un-bastarized true garrett trubo, easier to customize out the box, better looking on engine bay, complete billet oil pan spacer, billet vaccum block....i dont think you will be dissapointed with the PL choice.

Those are DD numbers. We have seen as much as 12.5% difference between our dyno and a nearby Dynojet.

Only massaging of the kit seems to be with DIY'ers, we have not had rubbing or fitment issues here in shop on any of our installs... just some FYI.
Power potential of the PL 35r kit is 655whp with pistons and rods, stock sleeves and head gaskets as well as stock bearings and crank too!
Average base boost horsepower on the PL kit with moderate tune is between 380-400whp which seems to be the safe marker on the DE motors with out building it before the wrist pins let go around 450whp Daily driven.
Install time is Worlds of difference between the two kits, the PL is far less time and hassle IMO.
