Default Oil consuption with boost?

I have a built motor with cams, 3.6 liter with 11:1 compression. It has the JWT 700BB kit, 9lbs 450whp 400tq.

After I TT my car, I noticed I'm burning about 2-3 quarts every 1500 miles. I have a oil pan spacer so I'm not too worried cause I check it pretty often but is this normal for you other guys that are boosted? I do get atleast 1 good run everyday with somebody on the highway but I don't drive it crazy. I talk to some other people and they said the high compression can make it do that as well. Anyone?

also, there isn't any white or purple smoke coming from the exhaust, just dark gray when I get on it.

Lots of possibilities - check out the threads on crankcase evacuation, turbo seals, etc.

Yeah, I would have thought you'd have a low compression build with TT's... 11:1 would be great for an NA build though.

a little bit is normal. 2 to 3 quarts in 1500 miles without a lot of tracking isnt normal. my last motor burnt 3 quarts in 500 miles, this was caused by a very poor build by a BuiltZMotors. thank god they are out of business and not making crap motors for us anymore.

It's not that big a deal I don't think. His max boost is less than a lower compression engine on pump gas. 11.0 compression * 9 psi = 9.0 compression * 11 psi? Let me think about that...

the only difference is that he;ll need less boost to make the same power but on the other hand will need race gas sooner to reach the same higher power levels of the low compression. Plus its prolly more fun to drive around town off boost.

either way, thats alot of oil. Thats more than my 15 yr old daily driver Geo with 200k on the motor with bad rings.

wow, thats a lot of oil.....you'd never need to change it...just change filter every few months lol.

In all reallity, Make sure you're not leaking it out somewhere. Then start looking for culprits. Thats still a lot for just crankcase ventilating to be the culprit.

Yeah, 11:1. I did that cause I was planning on either nitrous or vortech but got a good deal on JWT so I went with it. It runs great, PF supercars (Ray) tuned it and no problems. maxed out aps 500cc injectors at 9lbs... I need to upgrade to 700-800cc to raise the boost. Worst case, i blow it up with more boost and put new rods in....

What oil weight you guys using? I'm using 5w-30 now... thinking about changing to 10w-30 next change. What you guys think? NO LEAKS, or BAD SMOKE.... My mechanic checks it weekly to make sure. (Elite Importz in Laurel MD)

I run 10w-30....but chicago climate is CRAZY.

Check your inlet tubes (either at innercooler or to TB for oil).

that just seems like a lot of oil to me.

Well, if your mechanic is at PFS, then you're in the best hands around.... They're my current first choice for a builder.
