Did you speak to your installer about this? What did they do for you? Or, did you have to pay the whole bill for this?

Sorry to hear about your car...

Where was your EGT installed?

the EGT should be installed as close as posible to the engine, better yet, install it close to the cynlinder that is running the leanest if you can. I remember several trips going to San Jose from Orange County and my car was running up to 850 degree uphill ( had upgraded injectors too) . I had to turn the AFC up to give it more gas to bring the temperature down.

Anyway.. I hope your installer can help you out.

850 isnt bad especially under load or WOT, i used to run 900-950 all day long when spraying N02

I will get the pics of the FMU on Monday, the car is locked up in the ghetto right now, and can't get to it till then. EJ, I will send you a PM with some pics.

Bill

I think the EGT was installed on the exhaust manifolds. When I ran the car, even 300 miles home, my temp never got above 650, it usually was at about 550 or so. Only once did it get to 675, not sure what it was at when it died on the road, wasn't looking.

Yes. I have Borla headers, Injen exhaust, and cat pipes, or straight pipes or test pipes whatever you want to call them.

What side of the engine is your EGT monitoring and since you've got headers... Where is it, before or after the header collector. If it's before then you're only monitoring the one cylinder, if it's after the collector you're monitoring a composite of all three cylinders.

I'm not sure, the installer installed it, so I'll have to get with them about that.

I'm going to be installing 2 eventually. One after the collector on each manifold. I don't have headers though so the gasses will still be very hot. I realize it's kinda late for you now, but it's an interesting question, that could be the explanation as to why your EGT's looked normal.

I don't have headers. Just the Borla exhaust. My EGT has gone as high as 800 but that was only once. It usually runs 600-700 after a lot of driving and even lower just around town and not pushing it. I have no idea where AAM put it though.

My boost gauge has never gone over .5 cm/kg sq (7 psi)

I'm running an EGT in the right side header collector, before the flange that bolts to the cat. I'm getting peaks of a little under 800 C at WOT. It sometimes hits mid 700's under light throttle with a heavy load, such as going up a hill in fifth or sixth gear. After the motor is fully warmed up, any throttle at all even staying out of boost will bring the temps up to 650 or even 700.

OK, so who has the best price on rods and pistons? We are going to be looking at 8.5:1. Hopefully I'll be back on the road within the month

sgpracing has them on their site, 1320.00 for the 8.5:1 pistons, and 1275.00 for the rods. I want them cheaper. I think they had them custom made. I'm sure the pistons are Je, not sure about the rods. Just don't feel like paying that much

JE is very good, thats what most of the LS1 guys use when going FI. I had a heads/cam/ls1 edit/etc 2002 WS6. I got tired of the speed if you can believe it and sold it for the Z.

Default rods

The rods (forged I-beams) offered by sgp are made by "Pauter" and are good for >700 hp apps. Eventually "Eagle" may offer a set and they will probably be cheaper. But it doesn't sound like waiting is an option for you.

For peace of mind you may want to consider a piggyback "knock-alert" system. I beleive MSD sells one. It can warn of detonation , even if a fuel delivery componet fails quickley. An EGT and your ears can't detect that. It only takes a few seconds to destroy a piston, ring or head gasket under boost + detonation.

Another addiotional idea is a cockpit mounted fuel pressure gauge.
