yup jun and function 2nd have built awd 350z... The latter was all g parts and auto iirc and juns used g front end and diff but a race manual trans.. I forget which. AWD can definately be done... What I meant was that to use all the vr stuff including trans and doing the Awd and setting up a way to control that trans etc is just taking it too far and wasting pointless levels of money that could buy much cooler things

Juns 350z would smash on functions though. Function used the g35x awd platform, and Juns used the r33 awd platform (not sure if it was r33 or r32). Juns required much more custom fabrication, and was quite a ridiculous 350z masterpiece. Too bad Juns wrecked at 150mph from a shred up tire. RIP Juns Z.

If im not mistaken those are completely different Z's. Are you talking about Jun's Z that wrecked in the Silver State Classic?

The orange jun car that wrecked several years ago is not the yellow awd z they built. Different car. I also never read anything about their car using r33/r34 parts... Please cite your source on that one cause I thought that one used g parts also. I'll have to check thru the pictures I have this weekend

it's a legit question. 3.8gtr engine on the z would be totally badass, but we have way too many option to go that route. it just won't be necessary.

the gtr engine would be ideal for a high horse twin Z. But cost is just not worth it YET someday im sure this would be the norm. With all the gtr falling off the map already im guessing it will be a good idea. Ive read about the awd zs and unless you planed on makeing 600 plus its just not worth the money. Its just weight that you dont need. The best handling cars in the world are rwd... nobel lotus. ect

Yes it is, but it won't be cheap Although you will have a closed deck block, which would eliminate a lot of issues with high horsepower applications.

I would do it if I was to build a 800+ rwhp car (not to say it can't be done with a VQ, but a closed deck will be much better suited for the job.)

The nice thing about the VR38 is that it does not have VVEL, which will make things easier to retrofit into our cars.

How similar is the VQ37 in the new G37 and new Z to the VR38 besides the VVEL, and closed deck block? Same block just closed decked and different stroke and bore? I always wonder if the 6 spd from the G and Z (including Z33 or the Z34 trans) would even bolt up to that VR38 block. boy that would be a great setup! besides spending for the VR38 block and heads for it. Just curious if you knew the differences. if it would work putting that in a G or Z? im sure it would mount up just fine as far as engine clearance and crossmember for the motor mounts...considering the chassis are very close.

from what those who have had GTR blocks in front of them have said... completely different everything, and absolutely nothing bolts up.

If a swap is what your looking for look into a RB26 w/RB25 trans or 2Jz swap.. case closed..

Just becuase the STEALER charges $23k for a long block does not mean it costs $23k to get a block. In fact I can get a full block for less than 10k.

I think this is a legitimate area of interest, the RB26DETT's were 1,500,000 yen in Japan too when the R34's first came out yet these engines found their way into all sorts of vehicles.

The real question is what system besides MOTEC will manage a VR38 and how to mate it up to the 350Z tranny, and how much frame modification (hopefully none?) is necessary.

I'm sure someone is engaging this project at this time - I'd like to find out who.

Cheers

Having owned both the RB26 and 2JZ I'm not quite interested in these engines. The RB26 is just not happy on 91 octane, and a big power 2JZ has a torque curve of El Capitan in Yosemite (sorry all you MKIV owners hah).
