Well I guess clutch control on a streetbike and dirtbike are different? Upshifting and downshifting? These things are relevant in my opinion. It sounds like something simple but don't you think that its important to shift smoothly in turns? Downshift with speed to slow down faster if neccessary?
That is basic machine operation (can be applicable to a bull dozer). Sure they are needed to fine tune the ability to launch from a dead stop, but all non automatic machines require these skills. If you can't do these smoothly, do not look at a bike.

Someone posted that they had been riding dirt bikes for years in reference to getting a street bike. I am far to lazy to go dig the post up.

Not to be a dik, but I am in this case. This whole topic is silly. There was a time this would have been flamed, closed, and deleted.

IMO if this is how you feel about your car then its best not to go F/I. Unless you have great roads (like MD and VA) and very high end skill on a bike I would think a 500whp Z/G would be able to hang with you on even the twistiest of roads. You can usually tell who the agressive riders are by checking for a "chicken strip" on the far sides of the tires - I have them on mine. I am not skilled enough to commit to laying the bike over far enough in the turns to use the full contact patch of the tire.

When I drive the same roads in my car the I take on my bike, I am actually faster in my car, but feel much more excited by the rush of speed on the bike. As I get older I like the safer feeling of the car more.

OP, I am considering selling my 99 Yamaha R1 - its beautiful, but just not getting the use it deserves. Let me know if you are interested.

FI = your wallet gets killed
Bike = you get killed

After my experiences with aftermarket FI on a NA motor, I'd probably still pick a bike.

I sold my DRZ 400SM supermoto a few weeks back to get another turbo kit. Going to take a break this summer from riding and going to stick it out at the lake. I made $500 more then I paid for the bike. Right now is the time to sell bikes there are so many on craigslist. Going with a bigger moto next year either a KTM or Ducati Hypermotard. One of the two haven't decided yet. Need to ride one of the Hypermotards first, been on plenty of KTM moto's.

I've seen dudes hop on a 1000 cc bike and just take off and i've seen dudes buy a 250 and dump it in the dealers lot the day they bought it. Its all about your abilities. the best way is to test your self on a dirt bike if at all possible in my opp. Its like a skateboard, some people have it and some dont.
*sigh*

Used to have a 600 which I learned to ride on, rode for almost 2 years.. It got stolen.

I am deployed to Iraq right now and havent ridden in almost 2 years thanks to the Army. I really want a 750 but a buddy is selling his 1000 for an awesome deal... If he sells it though before I get back then i am going to get a 750.
