Default Has anyone broke off the differential mounting bolt? Well, I did.. :(

I was on my way home from work. I was about to hit 14psi in 2nd gear and "BAM!! KABOOM!!" Sound was coming from the back, so I was thinking maybe my axle shaft broke off... I immediately pulled over and went behind the car to check, but my axle shafts were in one pieces. But the differential pumpkin was tilted down about 20 degrees towards the ground... and the differential cover was MISSING THE FREAKING MOUNTING BOLT!!

I googled and found this.. http://www.spracingonline.com/spblog/?p=75
Seems like Sound Performance already came up with a remedy! SP please PM me the price of this differential brace! I'm not sure if I'm the first one to break this off, but guys with over 500WHP be warned.

I have SPL solid diff mounts, no wheel hop or shifting like with traditional rubber mounts.

Intense broke the diff mounting bolt on their widebody G last year. But that happened at the track during a 1/4 mile launch at approx 700whp with ET Streets.

+1 on the SPL solid diff busings. They will help eliminate unwanted movement that can contribute to the failure of the diff mounting bolt. The SP diff brace is a nice piece too.

Yeah, the factory mounting using only one bolt in the read is inadequate for high HP. I will get you a price on the braces today!

Was theirs the bolt or one of the "ears" at the front? Thought it was one of the front ears for some reason.

I think it was the bolt, because the guys commented about how there is only one mounting point for the diff on the Z/G and that most other cars have two. Maybe Darren can confirm/clarify though.

No worries, either way its good to have the brace.

The 03-04 cobra's are the same setup as ours and destroy the covers without a brace constantly (ask me how I know that one lol).

Not sure on pricing, I'll get the sp boys to chime in.
Anyone have pics comparing the nismo finned cover to a stock cover?

Here are pics of the brace installed.

I don't think it's going to work on the nismo cover.

Nor will this... This is my custom diff cover I got from Japan. It will hold one extra liter of oil...

I'm thinking about going back to stock diff housing to install SP's brace. Then add diff oil cooler.
