Default Z33Art V2.0 Custom Single Turbo

After four months of hard work I am finally at a point where I can post about progress on my Z33Art 2.0 project!

I'll preface with some background. Third time's a charm. This is what I would consider my last forced induction kit! However, it was a long road with two completely custom kits before it:

2005 Custom Single Turbo Kit (NCR Performance):

2008-2009 Z33Art V1.0 V-Mount Supercharger:

And finally, last but not least, Z33Art V2.0 Custom Single Turbo!!

Build List:
1) Precision 6765SP Turbo
2) DTP 28x16x4 Intercooler
3) Tial 50mm BOV
4) Tial V44 Wastegate
4) Z33Art Solid Motor Mounts
5) Z33Art 4" Downpipe
6) Z33Art Exhaust Manifolds
7) Z33Art Modified & Welded Shut Intake Manifold
8) Eagle Rods
9) Arias 8.8CR Pistons
10) Cosworth Rod/Main Bearings and Thrust Washers
11) ARP Main/Head Studs
12) HKS Headgaskets
13) CJM Fuel Rails
14) Walbro 255 Pump
15) Turbo XS Utec
16) ClutchMasters FX400 Clutch
17) JWT Flywheel

A ton of work went into getting everything to fit properly but in the end it all worked out!!! The alternator had to be moved to the driver side and the power steering pump had to be moved to the bottom of the passenger side. During the process I also did a wire tuck to remove the ugly engine harness from view as much as possible.

Keeping it simple, the goal was to make a no compromise "track" turbo kit that I wish I would have had the first time. As nice as the supercharger was, it just didn't have the kick that I wanted like a turbo does.

Number should come once I break the motor in and make sure everything is working properly. I just started it today finally and the motor is great but the tuning is off a bit. Once I get it all worked out so I can drive it under low load I will start breaking in the motor. I am looking for 500whp to start with since my clutch, UTEC and fuel system are set up for my goals which is about 650whp. I figure I can hit my 500whp goal this year and this winter switch it over to a new EMU and fuel system that is set up for E85 and then go further. I am very excited to try my new modified intake manifold! My initial modifications last year let me make power all the way to redline without power drop off.

Until then, here are some pictures:

Need to clean the car but here it is:

A huge thanks goes out to Chris/Larry @ Sound Performance, Carl @ 928 Motorsports, Jeremy Tibbs, Charles @ CJM, Curt @ DTP and my friend Matt Maas for all the help that they have given me through the process!

I also want to pre-thank my homie Ryan (eltness350) for the man hug he owes me!!

Enjoy!!!

Very cool and much props on the indepedant build.. I like to see people that aren't afraid to customize things in the engine bay far beyond a cookie cutter build... And it demonstrates a confident understanding of how things work... Not many have the nerve to change all that... Glad you aren't too far away, after I finish up this build I'd love to put the cars side by side and pull off the hoods and bumpers and compare ideas.. Thanks for sharing the pics.

so which way is the turbo mounted? one pick has the up pipes from teh top and teh other from teh bottom. either way that 6765 makes BIG numbers on the grand nationals. 600s should be barely boosting.!!!

It is a bottom mount. The first two pictures are previous custom FI kits I have had. When i first got the car I had a custom single turbo made with a Turbonetics T70 as a top mount. The shop ended up blowing up my motor and from there on I decided to do my own work hence the v-mount and this turbo kit now.

Actually, Sound Performance is the first shop since 2005 I have allowed to touch anything on my car which is a compliment to them and their reputation. I decided to have SP assemble the bottom end just to help speed up the process even though I could have done it.

That would be fun! I look forward to seeing your car even though your showing me up with two of my turbos if I am not mistaken.

i've followed your first turbo build and i've been wanting to mock that design ever since. Did you have to move a lot of things around to fit it? Anything major? did you have an aftermarket radiator? slim fans? your mock ups are great! versions 1-3

I had to do quite a bit to get it all to work. Things that come to mind are:
1) EVAP system had to be vented to atmosphere
2) Fuel supply line had to be rerouted
3) Custom Howe Radiator (which still cost less than what a Z radiator cost)
4) No A/C
5) No heater core connections
6) Special engine mounts for clearance of the down pipe
7) Relocate all the O2 sensors
8) Alternator on driver side with new power cable
9) Relocate power steering pump
10) New AN lines for all of the power steering

I think that is about it really.

Eventually when money isn't so tight I need to get the UTEC out of my car and get something better.
