Default JWT 700BB turbos..?? What are they?

I had a potential buyer of my car ask what turbos they were, trim A/R etc..

My only answer was gt28r's. with a .86 A/R

Are they off the shelf turbos or does JWT modify them? They werent much help when I asked them.

They aren't "GT28R's" as in gee tee twenty-eight Rs, they are G T 28 R S turbos, I have the same ones on my 300ZX TT (with the smaller .64 A/R turbine housing). They are a common turbo that JWT puts together for various applications. That .86 housing is pretty big, which is why they produced the smaller .64 housing for our (300ZX-ers) smaller, low CR, engine. I didn't realize the OTS kits for the 350Zs were using that big housing. The low-end torque suffers for only a small increase in total power, at least in the 300ZX world.

ok, I know the R is for ball bearings but what does the S indicate? So does that mean the 700BB is a off the shelf gt28RS with a .86 AR?? If so that is great because JWT wants $1500 for one where as I can get one from anyone else for around $1100

Edit:

looked up your build. The turbos are most likely not an off the shelf model. They likely are a hybrid setup spec'd to JWT standards. Stating they are GT28RS is a fair explanation of them

Yes, you can get OTS GT28RS turbos, but they (likely) wouldn't be flanged correctly, so be sure to do a complete cost analysis before diving in.

There are some pics posted on this site - look for a thread with 700bb in the subject line. There is nothing that says "JWT" on it as far as I can tell (but it is hard to see once installed). Of course it could have been modified by Garrett for JWT... Unless you put a 700bb right next to a GT28RS, it may be hard to know for sure.

That's why JWT makes money on selling turbos - they've gone through the process to make them work with our cars. Wouldn't you need the rest of the piping, the intercooler system, etc., anyway?

Regardless, here is the OTS GT28RS turbo:

And you can clearly see that at least the compressor flange is different from that turbo and the one JWT sells (pg. 7): http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wol...08-17-2005.pdf

I do know guys who have bought OTS GT28RS turbos for their 300ZX TTs instead of buying from JWT, but they had custom intercooler piping (plus these cars came TT from the factory).

The GT28RS is also affectionately known as the "disco potato." Wolf has used this turbo is numerous other applications.....so I wouldn't be surprised to find out that this is what is used in the JWT700 kit.

No need to-be or not-to-be surprised, it's the same one. They have fiddled with the A/R, changing from .86 to .64 to make a broader power curve, but it's their bread-and-butter turbo.

I have been searching all morning, The best I can come up with is that it is a gt2860R with an .86 housing. I know the housing is right because I can see that number on my turbos. It would be nice if they would just tell people what it is.......The car has over $14k in their products on it!

So what is the 850bb then...a GT2871RS?

Look here:

http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...egory_Code=GRT

you can buy the GT28RS (GT2860RS) from these guys with lots of different housing options.

.

The 850bb is called a GT-30 I am not sure the ins & outs but I think its a GT-28 frame stuffed with larger wheels????

If you really want to know the exact details email JWT tech support or call them they are very helpful. I have even got emails from and spoke on the phone with Jim himself. Make sure you have some free time on your hands if you get Jim on the phone....he is very helpful but he likes to talk

At the bottom it says JWT kit uses GT-25, GT 28 and GT-30 turbos but it dosent have any specs. On the turbos page they have more specs but not for the G/Z kit turbos?
