Question Vortech not holding boost, just want a good second opinion

hey guys just a quick question....

vortech Z, 9lb pulley couple other bolt on's **EDIT**: the kit has been installed for about two years and it just started doing this

neways the car wont hold more than 4-5lbs of boost when it has traction (heavy load), BUT when it is at idle and i give it a couple of healthy rev's it will hit the desired 9lbs, IN ADDITION when in 1st and 2nd gear (NO TRACTION) it goes to 9lbs as well. ony when in third or higher and fully hooked it falls on its face.

Now what do you guys think this is?

could it be the blower? (sounds fine at idle though)

the BPV? is the diaphragm just worn out? (the whistle at idle sounds louder than it used to IMO)

or just a leak somewhere else? everything ooks and sounds fine though

Thank's to all that reply as always much appreciated!

1st of all, if its installed correctly, its impossible to see any boost at idle by blipping the throttle. there has to be load on the engine.

somethings is wrong with your BPV. send it back to vortech

are there any kinks or holes in the vacuum line between the intake manifold and BPV?

Not blipping the throttle, revving up to 6k dropping to 4-4500k and goin up again. been installed for about two years now by Z-car garage. So it was installed correctly and has always done that.

I was leaning towards the BPV as well just seeing what the boys over here think.

Thanks for responding!

I was going to say belt slip as well. When was the last time you tightened it? Might also be time to replace it. Inspect everything, all your vacume lines your couplers, and your BPV. Check the cog belt too, make sure all the teeth are there.

ok i dont know how to put this, but u need to take ur car to someone who knows what they are doing asap...the big belt as u call it is the serpentine belt and that is the belt u want to tighten and the only one u need to touch...if u pull the undertray off and go in from the bottom there is a tensioner that needes to be tightened with a locknut and that u have to free then tighten it up and lock it back down..It should not squeal at all on start up or ever and is def. ur problem..The bumper doesnt need to come off for one single thing, even to check the bpv..u probably have a little oil residue on the bpv from blowby

I can manage. Bumper wasnt only for this, i though i might as well since im going to do it anyways plus frees up room and light gets in there better so I can see clearly.

from summer to winter over here I always gotta re-adjust, the temp changes are pretty drastic (near freezing to 110). Never had a problem with the big belt slipping though just got a little noisy then i adjust noise goes away and were good.

its grimey down there tomorrow im gonna pressure wash adjust and see if that takes care of it.

Thanks guys!

dude i live upstate ny..i have much more drastic weather changes...as far as the "big belt" other known as serpentine belt again , it needs to be tightened sometimes, they wear and stretch, plus cold weather makes it more prone to slip..As far as pressure washing down in there, not something i would ever recommend, ur not adjusting the other belt or the cog belt up top buy the blower right?..like i said id just take ur car somewhere who knows whats going on, seems like u want to do things yourself but id hate for u to make things worse for yourself which it really seems is going to happen..good luck

Incase you havent fixed it, I had the same problem with mine, however it would flatline at 5lbs whichever way/gear it's in. I replaced my BVP with an HKS bypass and full boost returned. Maybe check out the BVP to see if the diaphram moved easily or not. Even if it isn't the bvp, the HKS bypass sounds much better IMO.
