Default BC2 Cams - Idle and stalling (Haltech)

Guys,

Just installed my built motor with BC2 cams and the tuner is having problems getting the car to idle. It idles but as soon as you tap the accelerator and it decellerates it stalls. I have given them the details of the JWT idle stability fix and the throttle position relearn procedure which they will be trying today. If that doesn't work we will have to try drilling a small hole in the butterfly to raise the idle (luckily I have a spare) as there is nobody locally who can reflash the factory ECU.

Has anyone had this problem with the BC2's? I was under the impression that they didn't require the idle to be raised.

Thanks
Matt

^ Tom I think the problem is that there is no tuning being done... You can reflash remotely with UpRev Osiris. I would highly recommend Osiris (comes with Cipher for diagnostics) as it will be an invaluable tool for this fix and many others in the future...

OP - Raj is on point here. If you have a laptop and internet service you may be able to work through this issue, drilling the butterfly is NOT a solution.

Try adding some timing in under 1500 in the low load cells. You may also have to fatten the air/fuel mixture some as well.

I just saw that the title says "Haltech" in it. If you're using the Haltech, have you tried "copy through" timing at low load/idle? Contact Hal@IP if you need help tuning as he's tuned plenty of cars with those cams.

wat is your idle set at? If it's stock idle then I would try raising it to around +900rpm and this may solve ure problem.

take it to the dealership. for $100 dollars they will raise your idle to 850rpm or you can do it with the chiper.

on the haltech you in your ignition map you can enter (C) in your vacuum area and it will help your idle alot.

I think he meant cipher.

Nissan uses the Consul.

While raising the idle is not going to hurt, it is not required in order for the car to idle (and return to idle) with BC Stg2's. Sounds like tuning related. A good place to start is with copythrough ignition timing in vacuum, and making sure your fuel values are reasonable. Also, what is your ending decel cut RPM?

If you do decide to increase idle, don't drill the plate. What year is the car? You may be able to pick up a cipher cable from us (works on earlier Zs) and do it yourself, or if not we can send you a cable with ROM loaded ready to flash.

I have an 2005 and I was able to raise it to 900rpm. Also, is your flywheel really lite? That could also be the reason with stock idle and stall.

Its a 2003. Has a OS Giken twin plate (TR2CD) with flywheel.

Spoke with the tuner today and informed him to try the copy through. Thanks for the help guys. I'll get a copy of the map and get back to you Hal. If all else fails I will grab a Cypher off you.

Thanks
Matt

What helped me was similar to HAL's post above. ST with stock cams. I found that it rarely stalled when reving on the spot but could induce the stall when there was load. ie: stopping quickly at a set of lights with the clutch depressed.

I run copy through from -1.0kg/cm to about -0.60kg/cm up to 1000rpm on ignition which helped to flatten out the idle. I also richened up the fuel between -0.71 and -0.61kg/cm up to 750rpm. I found that this helped me when I was having the issue a while back.

Lets us know how u go..

what is this doing to hte timing values?

i have this problem big time on my built engine/heads/cams with my vortech. I have osiris so i'll have to manually adjust it verses the copy through thing you do with a haltech.

Mine almost always stalls when i blip the throttle. That's the reason teh tuner wouldn't finish my tune a few weeks ago.

If you take the cells below idle and richen them up a little, it will bring the idle up if it dips too low. I wouldn't mess with the timing - copy through timing basically lets the stock ECU control timing, and well, you're using the stock ECU!

so richen the cells below idle. I'll try that. When i get my engine back together i'll see if it helps. IIRC my engine goes rich when i let off the throttle right before it dies though so i'll try to go the opposite way with it if it doesnt work.
