Default Powerlab 35R kit will not make 500 HP

I have just recieved disappointing new on my new engine build and the powerlab gt35r kit which was installed on my 2006 G35. The powerlab kit will not produce effective power past 465 hp on a dyno dynamic dyno. The kit is maxed out at 13-14 psi of boost. The engine is a stage one built block from Injected performance with Jim wolf s7 cams/valve springs, CJM stage 1 return fuel system with 800cc injectors, 3 inch exhaust into 2 2.5 inch hks mufflers, and an Haltech platinum running the show. The crew from Injected has been excellent to work with and have tried everything in their power to remedy the situation but have not been able to pull more power out of this kit without changing the turbo and building custom piping. I will post the dynos and more info as I recieve it.

Jtran made a little more and a A$$ ton of torque with a restrictive A$$ exhaust. Altho the mentioned build below was completely changed and no longer exists here it is..

interesting....right off their site

The GT35R Turbo Kit from PowerLab offers the most efficient and highest horsepower potential capabilities on the market. Whether you’re looking for approximately 400RWHP on a stock motor or 653RWHP on a semi built motor and upgraded fuel components, then the PowerLab GT35R Turbo Kit is the kit for you

Thumbs up

Something is indeed wrong with either the install or tuning. I will make no bones about saying this. We would not be the first ones to make well over 500hp on this kit. The title comes off a bit misleading or insinuating but I'm sure PowerLab will be happy to help out.

PM me and I will forward it to them.

the turbo is rated to what it is rated... nothing is changed and it is genuine Garrett (VERY OBVIOUS)

We'll be happy to help... please let us know who is doing your install as well... I'm readin Injected but having a hard time believing THEY can't figure this issue out..

We have numerous locals on 7.2 lbs making just under or at 400WHEEL.

I am just stated what has been forwarded to me. Injected performance has done the complete project including the build and the tuning. The kit was on the car for ~5000 miles prior to the build project and made excellent power at 8 lbs of boost ~4oohp/400 torque. Hal at injected was the tuner who originally perform the stock motor tune. They are just as perplexed as I am about the current situation.

so OP, if you did 550whp on chruch's inflated dynoqueen dyno, would that make you feel better? nearly 500whp on a dyno dynamics is pretty nasty. you'll have problems putting that to the ground even in third gear without the proper tires and camber settings.

Playing dyno guessing games, and your idea of nasty power has nothing to do with the problem that this particular kit and set-up, for reasons unkown, is NOT making the power it should.

650whp DJ is still 600whp or very close to it on a DD, he isnt even close.

interesting.... that 630ish # that Intense made on their PL kit was super strung out, as in no wastegate control, boost spike to 29psi. I think the best the Performance Factory every made on their DJ with a race gas PL kit was ~600 and I bet at 18psi or more.

and that was dynojet, so assume thats around 570DD

So its not far fetched that James is getting 460s at 1/2 that boost. His DJ corrected would be ~500whp.

I'm sure Hal wasnt using race gas at 460whp DD. People that thought that kit would make 600 on pump are crazy.

Throw some c16 in there and run the boost to 20 psi and you'll make your #'s. IF he was using race gas at 460 though,

Have they tried contacting IntensePower/PowerLab?

I will personally contact Injected myself and see if I can get the ball rolling on helping you out. (Not something I should have to do but, I see where this is going)

Curious as to whether a leak down and compression test has been done on the motor since it was built. I am not implying or insinuating anything here.

Injected is more than capable and a proven shop, this isn't their first rodeo nor ours on this kit so we are happy to help out however; we can.

Everyone is capable of mistakes and things happen, just sayin.

Again no offense to OP or Injected. Genuinely trying to help out with the situation.

Race gas was definitely not used at 460rwhp. It was regular 93 octane fuel from the pump.

Question

Hmmm... VERY STRANGE I find it very hard to believe that the kit is truly maxed out at ~500whp @ 12-13PSI. What exhaust setup is being used?

Also, I'm curious... Did the OP or Injected notify and consult PowerLab about this problem prior to this thread being created??? If so, what did they have to say about it?

This to me sounds like the pump gas limit of the kit, or close to it. That makes sense.

The OP wasnt clear though, and if he wanted 500+ on pump there would have been other proven choices ie. twins.

So OP-did the shop tell you this was it for this kit, PERIOD? You may have jumped the gun posting this.

I am going to request (PUBLICLY) that this thread (Guessing game) be at a minimum locked for now.

This is until we can all put our heads together to figure out what is going on without everyone jumping the gun and the usual FI section drama occurring.

Thank you for understanding.

the car was not run on race gas....
can someone link a PL dyno higher than low 500s on straight pump?

How about a link to a single gt35r making mid-500s on pump on any platform?

I fail to see a problem here except unrealistic expectations propagated from misinformation
