Anyone regret going FI?
this is coming from the guy who put allot of cars down. i remember seen vids of maxsports bringing down some titans on youtube.
if the Z is your only form of transportation and/or dont have the funds to build after a blown stock motor or go back to stock then dont do it. no regrets, its a freakin blast to drive. only regret is that i didnt go all out first time around.
^^^ thanks. I've been lurking for years around here; here's an ancient thread by me back in 2003 awaiting the 1st Vortech kit: https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...for-350-z.html
Anyway . .. . I just figured that since the Vortech kit is around 7 years old now, that maybe someone out there had installed it and left it alone (avoiding boost addiction) and could claim 50,000+ miles on a boosted stock motor.

Well, not everyone treats their Z as a weekend warrior. Some drive it daily . . . not me . . . and clearly not you . . . but some do. And many have already put 100,000 miles on their Z . . . and maybe someone with an early boosted set-up.
I've been a member of these forums since way back. I bought my 2003 Z when they were first coming out and remember the first Vortech kit and people awaiting the original Greddy TT kit . . . . there were some early adopters of FI that led the way and began the data collection that all have benefitted from. Clearly the FI community of these forums has changed. Peace.

I daily drive my G. Always have when the car is drivable. Daily driving for me means 8-10k miles per year. Having had the car new since 2004, it now has 43k miles. Boosted at 24k in 2007. So that's about 20k miles in 3 yrs. With the car sometimes sitting on jackstands for maintenance, it'll sometimes sit out a week here or there if I can't get the work done on the weekend. The work at Forged spanned over a year too. That's the way it is with FI. Getting to 100k boosted miles will take a long time.
Waiting on Keith (superchargedg) to find his way in here. He started out with a SC and is now TT. He has real miles on both set-ups and uses his G as his DD IIRC. I'm pretty sure he is over 50K on F/I.
It will all depend on how you drive the car. Any F/I will last on a stock block if you never beat on the car, but that defeats the purpose. If you want an F/I kit on the stock block that will last AND that you can enjoy, Vortech is probably your best bet. On a side note, gas mileage suffers significantly with the Vortech kit, just something to think about if this is your DD.
I do not regret it one bit.I had the Stillen s/c at first but that was when the only options were the ATI and the Greddy twins and they had no timing control and were blowing everything up.It seemed the Stillen was the only safe option........and it was....until we finally got some real EMS control.
emanage blew (as i like to call it) blew my motor up. but i'm happy it did; if not i'd probably still be on a stock block.
i've got 30k miles on my built block, it is my daily, i built it almost two years ago.
boost it, hell have fun, if it blows-oh well good reason to upgrade

Lol... Yes sir, long time Sharif. I miss these ends.
Sorry to highjack the thread.
I remember when I had my Z on stock internals and FI I tried and tried to blow it with no success . I have tons of videos of me ragging on my setup, it was only after those attempts did I have true respect to the FI VQ motor. When done correctly with a safe tune you can run it down to the ground, but you don't need me to tell you this theres a lot of senior members on here who could say the same. Back when I built my motor everyone was around the hype you needed sleeves to hit into 600rwhp and I fell into that hype since it was still a new setup for this platform. Now a days sleeves are not really needed to run a strong built motor just to show the powerhouse of the VQ
I've had my ups and DOWNS.. lots of DOWNS but after it all I'll never regret it.

MSGarrett 1 Toanswer 1 question I have 45k on stock internals with a aps kit and still running strong since 05.
Maximumsport Z It's nice to see you back. It's been way to long Chris.

I had a blast with my car for a while. But ultimately its proved to be unreliable to the point of being not drivable. Hindsight being 20/20 I hugely regret it and wish I had spent the money on a nicer, more well rounded car.
Honestly, going fast is fun. However, I'd like to have a car whose interior fit and finish is better than the Z's (which arguably is terrible) and that is fun in corners. I'd max out your suspension mods and then decide if you're really ready to take the plunge. No matter what shop you have work on the car, it will NEVER run the same, this much I promise you.
