Default Insight on Vortech SC

New to the forum, so Hello!

I've been researching a lot lately on the 350z and the FI route.

I'm trading my MKV GLI in for most likely a Rev up 350z, but will seek a SC to up the power. I work in NYC and take the train daily, so the car will only be drove on the weekends, hence me ditching the FWDLOL for a nice RWD platform. Have a few questions for you guys, hope you can help me out?

Would you rec. starting with a stock 350 and doing the whole SC process, or buying a 350 with the SC already installed?

If I decided to do the SC myself, what will it cost me besides the $6,000 price tag of the system? I'll have a shop do it as I dont have access to the tools, nor the time.

Thanks

Please read the stickies at the top of the F/I forum page, lots of good info there. Also, try using the search feature to find more info on the SC kits.

I'm not sure why you would choose a rev-up (06) engine though. Its somewhat of a bastard year and had a very short production run, so there are fewer F/I options for that year than the DE (03-05).

Welcome to the forum.

Then type in different SC kit types into the search box and you will be directed to threads with lots of info on setups, supporting mods and power gains.

The F/I forum is a hard place to start out in as a newbie.

Thank you for the insight. I'll have my work cut out for me trying to adjust to a larger forum. Came from a Saab forum which is a much smaller community!

never buy FI from a person that can't list every detail about all the parts or provide every receipt that any shop that touched it provides. If someone "did it myself" and they can't explain every last detail then they rpobably have no fn clue on what they did and it's a pile of junk.

Just a few things to ponder before going up this road.

You will never recoup what you spend on the upgrades.

You will enjoy the heck out of the unleashed power so you will go through tires
and gas much faster and a few tickets as well.

You need to understand you take a chance of it going boom faster than stock
so spend some time with a good tuner who has worked on F I VQ platforms with proven results.

By the time you are done you will spend 10k for this and I assure you it will
come to life under your right foot.

This will Never be a race car do not fool yourself into that..so if you do go
FI do it for your smiles per miles.. I love my FI G35 and found up-rev to be
a great tuning tool..

Good luck and enjoy the power..

I highly recommend buying one that hasn't been modified beyond bolt-ons. There are many cars on(and outside) these forums done right, but there are far more done wrong. Rev-up is a horrible year to choose for s/c because as Cass mentioned it is the "bastard" and as collectible as this POS engine may be one day, for now it's just a PITA. Buy 03-05 or 07-09 imo.

Buy a stock 03-05 or 07-08 Z if you want to go F/I. Also sit down and read the many F/I adventure threads that forum members posted up in the section. It will save you lots of money and heartache. I learned tons from reading this section. GL on your decision op!

I'd take my 06 rev up over an earlier year any day, granted I built my block but once built there is no downside. The only small deal to having the "bastard year" revup is the limited cam choices. I like the revup because you have vvt on the exhaust cam, better designed interior, and the 06 head and tail lights. In my opinion hr>revup>de. everyone is entitled to their own opinion but an 06z is a good place to start.
