agreed. I believe my tuner is more comfortable with the uprev anyway.

How many people stay stock block and don't rebuild/go for bigger power?
the price difference between a used haltech and a maf+osiris is probably like 200$. considering almost everyone blows eventually and or most go built regardless it's just a bandaid. the old addage do it right or not at all stands tall and true. ive learned it the hard way so far.

You know where I'm at with vehicles... But I still cringe about uprev being cOnsidered the "wrong" way.

I think uprev is a solid route but everyone thinks its soooooo inexpensive compared to haltech so they go uprev. Some guys aren't here to crush numbers- uprev holds its own... But guys need to know that as you expand on your hp /tq you spend a lot more on the uprev route that is already included with haltech. As mentioned the costs balance out.

I think what sylvan said is a good benchmark- if you're going to build your block... Haltech is the way to go. Stock block? Well- uprev may be a reasonable option. Haltech Brings with it a measure of protection that uprev technically doesn't- either way when you consider the cost of all the extras- especially if you need a second tune because you don't go with the upgraded maf off the start... A used haltech (from a trusted member of the forums) is a compelling option.

I haven't built my stock block, had it boosted for 4+ years, and have tracked it (road course) 25+ times. If I blow an engine, I will build it, but so far, it has been good. Driven across the country boosted 4 times, as well.

And I went with the Haltech, after getting sick of my UTEC and the assorted problems.

What are you using for oil feed lines? also the return lines??? I am going to get the feed lines from Forged Performance, they look awsome and from what I have been told are way better.

But are you using the Greddy oil pan?

When I installed my HKS twins, I had a lift. It took me something like two months, because I had to fabricate a bunch of charge pipes, intake pipes, coolant and oil lines, etc. If you are installing a GReddy kit I don't think it would be too bad with a lift. On jack stands would be another story.

I no longer have easy access to a lift and I recently pulled (and reinstalled) my motor twice within the last ~3 months using a cherry picker and jack stands. If all you have to work with are jack stands, I think pulling the motor is the way to go. It will also make swapping out the clutch much easier. I have never pulled the tranny on jack stands (done it on the lift 3 times) but I imagine it wouldn't be fun.

yea, I will just be doing this off jackstands so I will definitely be pulling the engine and tranny. My buddy has a cherry picker so its no problem. Hands down the way to go. glad I made this thread

yea, I have herd good things about the forged lines compared to the greddy. My kit came with lines already, although they look a bit short. They have 10 AN return lines. My seller forgot to include the oil pan with the sale so he is sending one now. We will see what I get. I believe its the greddy pan that comes with the kit.

well, I have finally pulled the trigger on this project. I changed jobs and moved 3x in the last 3 years so its been put off time and time again. This weekend i decided its time to get going. Started by just removal of all the easy stuff. Gonna get a few helping hands and a engine puller and get the engine pulled in the next couple of weeks. I have attached a few pics of my progress.

Note that the VQ engine uses BSPT threads, not NPT. So you need a 1/8 BSPT adapter for the oil pressure port. if you want to add 2 more ports like I did, you need a 1/8 BSPT tap.
