^ yea, you'll know you've exceeded it when it bubbles near the connector

Lol, all the Nissan coils fail like that bubble up on the outside. I have several spare QR and VQ coils in my toolbox at work from full sets we've replaced. All the bad ones look half melted on one or two sides. Never seen that type of failure on other brands, nothing visibly obvious like that.

every basemap from Haltech, Proefi, etc comes with dwell times set to 4ms.

Thats got to be close to stock

My car is 2003 and never had a coil problem

Sorry to up an old 3d. About dwell time for VQ coils, this is my setting with 4ms:

is it fine to have it decrementing like this at higher rpm, or can it be set flat to 4ms all the way up to 7k rpm?

PS: i run the Okada plasma.

Our setup is really similar. I run a HKS8555 too with a link ecu.
Did you have issues with coils and went with the Okada plasma. I think they should be able to answer your question about the dwell time.

I also have had issues with stock coils after they heat up. I can only do less than two laps on a race track before they start acting out and not firing properly. Now I'm wondering should I get OEM Hitachi coils or something else. Okada plasma is really expensive, but I'd like to know why did you choose them and how are they working for you?
