So any ideas on lifting a complete engine are appreciated!

That VP110 is expensive stuff...

They're correct about the tranny not clearing the wastegates. It will be a hard decision to pull the motor or not when I need to change my clutch out. Last time I diassembled the wastegate (I believe it's the passenger side that hangs up) I'm not sure if I will have the issue with the relocation pipes or not.

As far as lifting goes, I use 2x soft straps. One around the engine block, one around the bottom of the bell housing. I use a 2x4 or 4x4 cut to length to ensure the straps don't put pressure on the valve covers which would crack them.

Also make sure you buy the load leveler at harbor freight, it takes a pretty extreme angle to get the engine in there with the greddy stuff on it then you need to level it out once you have cleared the rack and pinion. Watch that hard line or you'll clip it.

This method has worked for me multiple times without issue, knock on wood.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully I can just drop the tranny, install the engine, and then put the tranny back. I will get one of those load levelers though as it looks like it would help a lot, but I probably will stick to picking it up by the exhaust manifold. This is a ways away though as I still have to figure out what each of the bolts I bought at the recommendation of @yosip1115 are for :P But christmas breaks starts this weekend so I am hoping I have all the gaskets and bolts I need and can make a nice sized dent in my project.

Ill try and snap a few pics for everyone this weekend if I can remember.

If I remember correctly the tranny came out relatively easy and went back in pretty easy as well. Getting the splines lined up was the hardest for me.

load-leveler helps

I believe the FSM says to pick by a exhaust mani-bolt. I did (and I've seen others) loop a 3rd point through the hole in the timing chain case ... right wrong or indifferent.

FYI, I done about 5-6 pulls and installs on mine using one of the levelers. I typically bolt it front using one of the two big bolts that goes through the front covers into the block and the opposite top trans bolt on the rear.

Alright guys, you have all been so hopefull with this build. Im hoping someone can help me with this. There is one bolt connecting the downpipe to the turbo that will not sit even no matter what i do. Ive tried all kinds of orientations. Should i go buy sand paper and spend hours trying to sand the downpipe flat?

You'd be better off with a file or something else like a dremel :/

What else do you have haha

Well i have a 3 sided file and some fine sandpaper and a torch haha. I dont see how the guy before me got it even or how anyone else does? I have to go pick up a new hacksaw blade tomorrow and cut down my allen wrench to tighten a few bolts too

this...it's sorta funny and sorta sad how we have to re-engineer Greddy's kit...

definitely buy a cutoff/grinding wheel instead of a new hacksaw blade!

You won't regret it, +10 man points

Any other probs/questions let us know. I found it easier to mount the headers and build it all on the engine but either way works (if you can get to the header hardware with the turbo in the way)

Heres a few pics of what i have so far. The test pipe is just there for test fitting. Need to pick up a few tools tomorrow to clock the turbos and get all these bolts tightened down. Saw a bunch of people complaining about wastegate gaskets blowing easily so i didnt use them. Thoughts?

I dunno what they're smokin, but you definitely want those gaskets installed. Vibrant are great

Also that downpipe is totally upside down and or on the wrong side. Up pipe anyone?
