HKS supercharger build

Currently debating as to what direction I want to go in.
Because of the current state of economy, the long blocks from Soho went up dramatically (like I can buy another supercharger kit with the difference, dramatically)
Although the idea was nice in my head, that's a lot of money, I feel like all I really need is a spare engine to throw some rods and pistons into (or even in mine).
I wish I had access to a nicer garage and clean spot where I could build my own engine, but I do not.
If I'd have to guess right now, I'd say I'll target 2025 for finishing the project.

Totally get it, man. On top of everything being more expensive in general, the AUD-US exchange has taken a beating so I'm in no hurry to get my remaining parts, which is why I still haven't gotten the block inspected. Not a great time for car modding.

@Timboj Is traction a serious issue at the power that you are currently at? I know you are running a 3.9 final drive however, I'm running stock gearing so hopefully traction is better LOL. Looking to upgrade to Michelin PS4S with 285s in the rear as I already have the other rear end mods done aside from a LSD (also going with Quaife). Hoping traction isn't too big of an issue

@VQplatform It breaks traction very easily in 1st/2nd. Under the right conditions I'll bet 3rd is possible too. Better tyres than my Kumhos will obviously help and if I do get a little more into drag racing, I'll end up playing around with launch control.
For anyone in the know, is there any real benefit to recirculating air from the blow-off valve? Seems to me like it just creates unnecessary pressure in the intake pipe (and also muting my pssst).

It's not metered on our HKS setups, the bypass valve is before the MAF. Not sure on performance benefits but it will definitely be way noisier since it's a bypass on a supercharger as opposed to a blow off on a turbo. I'd be curious to know though if there's any benefits.

Yeah it's pre-MAF so wouldn't be metered anyway. I don't think there are any downsides, but might not be any upsides either. I'll run without recirc for a while and see if it makes a difference.

@Timboj I do think the 3.5 final drive will help you greatly with traction and your 1/4 mile times. I hope that I see better traction running the 3.5 with Quaife LSD. Have you done any recent dyno runs? Curious to see what your torque numbers are, I realized your cams probably made a big difference with FI numbers wise, do you think your numbers are pretty much in-line with your set up? I have seen people run 400whp/400wtq on a completely stock block

A lower FD will probably make the car more driveable after the next power bump, but it's not necessary yet. With 400hp and a 3.3 FD you'll still break traction in 1st and 2nd if you want to. Improving my drag times is mostly just practice on the launch. That and/or dialing in a launch control.
Curious as I am I haven't been back to the dyno. One of Z1's employees made made 427whp @12psi, so yeah I could make more power (more boost) but I'm fine with where it is.

Wow, car is quite beastly with the power its making, I'm not looking for anything past stock block limits actually just curious on the variation but that could be due to different dynos and such. Hopefully I can still reach 380whp/380wtq without cams as I'd like for my powerband to stay to the left as much as possible but I think it should be realistic on this kit given several testimonies. What RPM do you feel boost build?
#272
True I was mainly referring to the cams shifting torque to the upper powerband but the kit still makes a lot of power at the very low end which is a big advantage over the vortech kits.
