Default Greddy RPM Adaptor---more anomalies

OK, I am begining to think this Greddy RPM adaptor is a POS. But maybe it is just me. Well, I triple checked the connections of the 6 signal wires, ground wire, and brown output wire. Everything is well soldered and tight. I am getting an RPM singal, but on occasion, I will get a split second spike of RPM. For instance, the profec will record peak RPM. So I will be cruising at 2000rpm, and then I'll see a momentary blink to like 7000rpm...or sometimes 15000rpm. It is literally a tiny split second....but enough to register the spike on the peak RPM meter. It is almost like its not getting a totally clean RPM signal. Again...very occasional, and ultra-fast spike.

Also, I noticed that my tachomter on the car is about 100 RPM higher than what is reading on my Profec.

Any idea what is causing this? Everything is very well grounded, and I even have a grounding kit. Any ideas? I am about to install my timing harness with diodes.

I have some strange RPM signals too when I log directly off of my ECU before the J&S, but the signal is great after the J&S processes the signal. It's possible that diodes could clean it up.

My symptoms are that every once in a while the logger will read 20,000 RPM, and when you look at the actual logged signal data on the logger display it just looks like noise.

Thats exactly what I see...it is almost like some faint noise when I graph it. Maybe .1 sec of abnormal RPM signal.

Hey the diodes I bought to install my ignition harness are 100V vs. the 50v ones that ETX used. The guy at the electronics store told me they will still work just fine. Makes sense to me since the signal at most is about 5V. Does this seem right? I am not really familiar with what a diode does or how it works.

The RPM from my E-01 is almost like 500 off the tachometer. My tach would read 1500 and the e01 would tell me its like 2200. Dont know y its so off.

Hrm. Weird stuff. My RPM signal is dead on, and I have never seen a spike. I always have the e-01 on graph mode so that I can get an idea of what was going on ~5 seconds before I look at it. My data logger and e-01 display almost the exact same rpm. Maybe your adapter is bad. I would call Kenji and ask him about it. If you don't get it resolved ask them to switch it for a new one. If your e-01 is not getting the correct rpm it cannot fuel the motor properly. It will be a tad off, but it could cause a problem.

GQ, about the Diodes do you mean 100 watts? a long as the rating is higher your good. Do you have the TS flash? I believe you do. I am pulling 5 degrees at idle, it really smoothes out the idle. The reason for doing so is the car is getting more air/fuel than the ecu sees. So it's going to advance the timing a little more to make a good burn. Pulling 3 to 5 degrees at idle should counteract it.

I really can't afford the TS Flash!

ETX.. They are 100V 3amp. The model number you used for your ignition harness was a 50V 3amp.

ETX...i will personally come down there and kick you *** if you spend $500+ dollars on a TS Reflash.

The eManage has soooo much potential. And the TS Reflash and eManage mix about as well as oil and water.

i still cant figure out why you have a such a rough idle. Did you install a 255 fuel pump or something? My AEM wideband shows that at idle at 14.7:1 to 15.5:1. I would think that would look pretty normal to the ECU. Me, ZRAYGO, and 350now's cars idle and start very smoothly. Idles like stock....cold start is instant....warm start maybe takes about 1/2 sec longer.

GQ,

You may be on to something. My RPM looks right, but I started logging it after reading this and I do get an occasional spike. I just looked at ACP's E-01 and his RPM signal is way off. He heard from somewhere that even though all the wires are yellow, you should follow the order (ie, the one closest to brown goes to ECU pin 81, and the furthest goes to ECU pin 60). I will check mine when I'm getting the other work done next week.

I also forgot to look at where he is aquiring the RPM signal, so it may be set wrong...

The Greddy instructions done even tell you which yellow wire goes where. It really shouldnt make any difference at all. I think the ecu just spits of a very weak/dirty signal that is difficult for the greddy adaptor to pick up. I will try installing some diodes and see that cleans it up. Or maybe a signal amplifier on the brown wire....
