K&N Replacement for stock Vortech filter (pics)
I ordered this filter to use in place of the stock Vortech filter. It is somewhat smaller than the one provided by Vortech, but you don't have to remove anything to change or clean it. (i.e. you can clean it every week if you want) So far, I've ran it pretty hard and I haven't had any problems with it.
Nice install and pic's! Should be complete with mine on 6/12/04.
GREAT idea on the filter! Which K&N filter did you use? I will order now and cut the existing filter out when replacement/cleaning is required.

The K&N part number is RU-4410.
S12, I thought about that too. I don't think that this is as big of a problem with FI as it is with NA since we're using an actual pump. But, obviously pumping sucking through a smaller whole will hurt performance. I think the real question, is how often are you willing to clean the filter. If you look at the K&N flow performance, a dirty K&N type filter only flows about 1/2-1/3 of a clean filter. So I figure that since I can clean it at every oil change, my filter will always be at max flow; as opposed to having a filter that requires at least 6+ hours of labor to clean. I can't see myself cleaning that filter any more often than once a year or so.
To sum up, I'm choosing a smaller cleaner filter as opposed to a larger, dirtier filter. But, if your willing to change the stock filter as often, it's obviously better.
Also, this filter allows air to flow through the factory air duct, unlike the Vortech filter which plugs up the air duct. (cold air vs. hot engine air)
