Default Drilling intercooler vents in stock G35c bumper?

The stock G35 coupe bumper is solid in the lower valance in front of where my Vortech intercooler is located. I can't see how any decent airflow will get to it. I don't want to change out the bumper. Has anyone drilled out vents in this area or are there any kits to do this neatly and with small protective grills?

I haven't heard of any yet gerstinp. Would you have a pic of the intercooler location so it might be easier for others to come up with a solution?

A pic would only show the solid area below the front license plate--that's the area I'm thinking of drilling.

nope - everyone is just going with one of the front bumpers out there that replace the factory piece with a different design that utilizes a large center opening for the intercooler (ie GReddy)

It seems like two discrete holes (about 2 1/2 " diam each) would improve ventilation without too much effect on the lines being very low down on the bumper, under the plate. I wonder if they make some kind of pop-in, grilled vents.

Sounds like a custom job unless you go with an aftermarket piece like the others have done.

Maybe contact a body shop and see what kind of a quote they can give you for this work. I think it's the best way to make it look nice and since there will probably be some painting, it might be easier for one shop to do everything.

Good luck on it.

How did you make the cut out precisely? I assume the dremel was to smooth out the inner edges. I don't see an obvious picture of the rectangular cutout in your link.

Thanks!

Please don't do this to your G. The two vents on the side are more than enough to supply air flow to this intercooler.

I'm missing the pics of the G too. The only BS G I see doesn't have a stock bumper.

Those are some great looking cars there huducks.

the car origninally had the two holes for the license plate bracket so we just started from there. basically widened the holes a little more w/a small drill bit. surprisingly the bumper is pretty easy to cut into it took us about 20 mins for the whole thing w/o removing the bumper. but than again they ended up changing the bumper.

I presume you mean the lower holes. It looks in the picture like the license plate was raised higher about about 2 inches. Did you use a template for the cutout or did you just eyeball it by hand? The rectangular opening, if I'm seeing it right, is exactly what I was thinking--discrete but functional.

done by hand and it served its purpose for the time he had the bumper on. it didnt look too bad b/c it was different but everyone will have an opinion.
