Thumbs up aam plenum spacer review

i got in on the group buy so the spacer cost me $175 shipped....at first i thought this was a rip becuase its just a spacer and to me that price seemed high. after following that thread for a while i decided to go for it....i was hoping for nice gains and good quality....so i got in on the group buy price.

at first, i didn't receive all my hardware....somehow my hardware bag ripped open during shipping and some of the washers and bolts were missing. i called up their customer service and they took care of me asap. they made sure i received all of the necessary hardware shipped out 3 day air and changed their shipping bags to heavier duty so they wouldn't have this same problem happen to someone else. they also sent me the revised version that included some longer bolts and instructions. so, great customer service for starters.

the instructions were very easy to follow and the parts were of very good quality. i ended up getting a few extra bolts where i thought they were needed. i suppose you could go with aam's instructions and be fine. however, i thought one bolt was too long and a couple were to short so i changed them out....no biggie and only a couple of bucks...just my way of doing it. overall this is a pretty easy install and takes about an hour or less

now since i have had a couple of hundred miles on the car i can tell you that the gains are really good. the power pulls much harder throughout the whole powerband. i don't have a dyno to show just how much power was gained.... my butt dyno tells me its up there around 5-10 hp...you can really feel the difference. i compare this mod to say going to a high flow cat from completely stock exhaust on a stock car.

well i am really happy with the spacer and think its worth the money afterall. to those considering this mod i don't think you would be dissappointed at all...even if your modded i think you will see some descent gains

My thoughts exactly. I'm glad I got in on it. I noticed the difference as soon as I took the car out......db

RW,

Does your stock FSTB still fit? Did you modify your engine cover to fit over the raised plenum? Any pics? Does it sound any different to you?

That is all.

djk....they give you spacers for the FSTB so you can keep the stock one. the engine cover does not require modification either. as i mentioned, i changed out a few bolts that i thought were too short or too long but you should be able to use what comes with the kit as long as you make sure to use the proper torque!

there does appear to be a slightly different exhaust tone but remember that i have also installed headers recently too so its hard to say. with the addition of the headers and the spacer there has been a dramatic change in horsepower....very strong pull off the line and up...would be good for 1/4 milers and trackers too.

the dc sports ss headers effected more low to mid range power whereas the spacer you will notice a stronger pull throughout the entire powerband. the car sounds really good now...i am very happy with the results

i will try to snap some pics today...i need to go in and re-torque the header bolts anyways

i recommend removing the intake tube that goes from the tb to the airbox so that you can move the plenum easier (freely by itself)....this allows you to line up your spacer and gaskets.

if you don't, you will have a binding feeling with the tube attached and its much harder to move the plenum (because the tube is attached and gives you mininum movement of the plenum).

the more i drive the car the better i like this mod....really gives a nice boost of power

also, on the strut bar i used two washers on all bolts except for the drivers side...i went two and a half...three would have been too high

last pic completed install

note: if you have to use more than two washers you may need longer bolts...imo. i went a little longer on the driver's side since i had to go 2 and a half washers for that side and everythings fine.

seems like each time i take the car out it gets a little stronger...placebo maybe...but this mod has good bang for the buck

Road Warrior,

Wait until you get a conical filter on there! My car pulls hard all the way thru the powerpand and takes off above 4k, after the engine is warmed up. Sometimes it almost feels like my old 86 turbo when it kicked in

I have no idea what the engine is going to do once I install the spacer, from your feedback it's going probably cause me to sink into my seat. I'm actually getting all giddy from the amount of power expected once I get all my mods installed. See sig

sorry for the confusion....i meant a washer that is 1/3-1/2 of the size of washers that they give you with the kit...they are pretty thick washers so 2 was too small and three was too high
