turns out greg used my dyno sheet b/c he had lost the originals from their own tests. their results where roughly the same within a few percent what chris at mossy said. im still kinda pissed no 1 told me about this.... and i had to find out about it here. oh well life goes on.

They should recoup your dyno costs and give you credit at the very least.

Default This is just wrong....

...shoddy....shoddy shoddy...Nissansource should receive a full refund and be compensated for whatever costs he has incurred trying to test this for us.

AFE...guess what....your intake will not be going on my Z...full stop

According to what has been said so far there has now been 2 independant tests, both confirming 6-10ish HP increase. (same as with other filters with similar design but with half or less pricetag and according to what everyone here was saying since day 1).

Lets see later today when Jasons test is done, then we will have 3 independant dyno tests done. I just want to hear what Grasshopper/AFE has to say about this clear evidence that their claims are pure BS and that the intake dosent even produce 50% of their claims, what actions will they take? Perhaps they will re-test also the magical 42hp BMW intake?

Thing is that its still a good intake, nice design and good quality (except for the poor fit of the heatshield on earlier models), there are just 2 major things wrong:
1. STUPID HP increase claims
2. Major overprice

Looking forward to Jasons dyno results!

/Roger

I read most of this thread, but I must still be missing something. Why the flowery review from nissanperformancemag for a product which delivers less than 1/3 of its claims? Would they give the 350Z the same review if its top speed was 55 instead of the claimed 155? And what's the purpose of an aftermarket intake anyway if not performance. I for one would not patronize AFE based on the apparently false claims in their advertising.

Jason,

Just curious, which filter is in your Z kit? The open end inverted cone or the solid top version.

Call me crazy but I have tried both and find the open end design to be more effective. The car feels more lively with the inverted open end cone filter than it did with the solid top unit.

Before when using the solid top filter the car still had a bit of a bogging feel. Now with the open end filter it seems to rev/accelerate more freely and quickly.

It looks like they use them interchangably. I thought it was due to mine being an early model/older inventory from a vendor, but I have to think they sent you their latest inventory for the test yet you got the carbon fiber top style filter. The open end filter is even slightly larger yielding more surface area and volume. Definitely a better choice.

I did notice that the latest review on nissan performance mag also tested with the solid top filter but all of AFE's own marketing material shows the open end filter.

Interesting.................

Are you implying that the little middle opening in the filter would give the extra 11-15 RWhp to reach AFE claims?

It MIGHT give a small increase in power, and maybe not since the airflow is accelerated when going from the larger diameter filter into the intake piping, an effect which would be reduced by having an opening in the middle (though giving slightly better flow), so overall i think it would be a VERY small diff in either way between the two.

No I'm not. All I've said is that the open end filter is better based on feel since I have tried both AFE filters. Not that it magically delivered the 21HP increase. I was merely curious as to what rhyme or reason AFE uses to decide which filter to use since it seems both are out there.
