Default Random pics of my SSV (install)

Here are some pics of my SSV install. You can also see the ATI Procharger in the front and the CryO2 cooling units.

Sorry, car was in the shop and it was kind of dark. Will get better pics outside with the install finished.

Got the SSV directly from Kintex Racing (well... directly may not be the exact word as I ordered and paid for it Mid december and got it end of Januaty) @ 820US$ + shipping (Still wondering why I asked for UPS 2nd day shipping )

No Dyno numbers yet. It will be kind of hard to compare them because I had JWT cams, 9psi ATI Procharger pulleys and an AP Racing BBK installed at the same time. Maybe somebody can tell me how much to add for the cams and the 9psi and how much to subtract for the AP Racing 14"+ disks ?

That's also one of the reasons I can't tell you exactly what the install price is for the plenum. Plus, since I live in Panama, you would not be able to get that price anywhere in the US anyways

FIRST IMPRESSIONS (without tuning). Without running the car in the high revs where the added boost kicks in and benefit of the cams start, the car now bogs down. It shows a definite lack of fuel, EGT goes up higher than normal and the Wideband AFR shows the motor running lean. This must mean (IMO, feel free to correct me) that a lot more air is enterng the engine mostly thanks to the plenum. If that is true, then the plenum must add a sizeable amount of HP to my setup.

Well, hope to get my car on the dyno on Monday (tomorrow) and I'll post some after numbers. I was at 330RWHP before the mods.

BYW: If you install the SSV you have much better (free) access to fuel rails and more importantly spark plugs, that should save something on future maintenace/mods !

365 RWHP and 300Lbs-ft Torque up from 330 RWHP. Added 1.5 lbs of boost and cams to my stock internals block.

Those giant HP gain claims are not real. Maybe this plenum makes 5-10 HP over the plastics Kinetix V4 one in my setup (see sig).

Things I did notice: the power band moved up in it's entirety. The car breaths definitely better. Surprisingly, although the boost is higher, EGT is lower.

I definiely need to get a better Stand Alone tuning computer. I'm sure I can get like at least 20-30 HP more out of my setup. It's just not possible to fine-tune my setup enough with the ATI FMU.

I also had a very long chat with my mechanic about plenums and such. He has built an 11.0 sec car from an old Corolla 4 cylinder (this would run 10 or lower in the US) and did all the mods on my car so I guess he knows what he's talking about. He basivcally told me that we can do what we want to our plenums, but at some point it will not improve anymore. Once the plenum is 100% efficient/big enough/flows enough/etc (*)... the real bottleneck is below the plenum. The valves and the intake ports are still restricting airflow so you would need to port the intake ports, go for a bit bigger valves. Would be nice to know if something like this was done to the car with that enormous HP gain...

Same goes for the exhaust BTW. At a certain level you can't get a better exhaust. Porting and polishing the exit ports would help most efter market exhausts.

BTW: talking about ehausts, my Invidia G200 + resonated test pipes + Ceramic DC sport headers was SO loud during the dyno run that at higher revs and standing next to the car, you could not not cover your ears. A few meters away, you could not talk on the cell phone... OUCH !

Danny

(*) work with me here. I'm not saying the SSV is 100% perfect. I;m trying to say that once a certain plenum can't flow more air any faster than the head/vales can take in, it could be called 100% effective at that moment.
