Default Weird exhaust tip color after track event???

Does this look weird to anyone??

Noticed it after a track event during the weekend. It's usually black inside the tips, but noticed it looked a little gray. Only mods are a 5/16 spacer, Nismo exhaust, Ultimate Racing HFC, and pop charger.

I was thinking this also, but there is still black stuff on the edge of the tips and back of my car. It wasnt spitting out and visable smoke though.

I have no idea why it would be running lean with only a couple of mods.

Did you run race gas? It looks like its race gas residue on your exhaust tip.

imo, that's a tell-tale sign of a lean condition... esp. since you said that it appeared after a track event (i.e. sustained high rpms)

it does stock... but with his mods:

"5/16 spacer, Nismo exhaust, Ultimate Racing HFC, and pop charger"

I would think he's a tad lean... I can't say for certain though because obviously every car is different.

Axelerate - May I suggest pulling a plug and taking a look to see if a lean condition really IS causing your problems?

hey, that's normal, if you ask me.. just happens when you run your z super hard. it comes off with a degreaser.. just let it sit for a few minutes then wipe.

It's perfectly fine. In fact, the color of your exhaust pipe on the inside is akin to reading plugs. Look inside the header of a real race car. It will be the same color if not a little lighter. I was unable to see your picture BTW. I wouldn't worry about it at all though.

Oh it's clean now!

I took that at the track before I left.

Thanks for the replies.

I checked for any exhaust leaks or plenum leaks and found none, and I reset the ECU also. Car feels the same and hasnt felt down on power so I think it's fine.

Now that I'm back to driving normal it seems to be darking up again.

as asked above, were you running race fuel? 110 perhaps?

on a side note, are you coming to the mini-meet this Saturday?

I work Saturdays until 7, so if it's still going on then I can.

About the race fuel, I filled up at the pumps at VIR and I cant rmember which grade I used. So it is possible I filled up with something other than 93. It's all so damn expensive and I was in a hurry to get ready for my session.

I would tend to agree that is was probably race fuel and not a big deal. I used to run 116 all the time and my tail pipes looked like that.

I am trying to set up a first meeting for the whole Z club thing, hope you will be able to make it.
