no one's mentioned the Stillen.....which I think is pretty darn quiet. you notice it more up top, but most of the time it's really suttle

My shop put it on in less then 2 hours, charged me $120 install. 10,000KM now with no rattles or leaks. The body shop complimented the quality of the Borla. I guess they didn't have any "ewwwwww" from an install standpoint. They made it a point to inspect the clamps that went over the slip fit and said the clamps were top notch.

I guess we have a bit of a disconnect here.

You can probably get another resonator into the mid pipe. The resonator will definatly quiet you down. if your rasping, put 2 resonators into the Y pipe. Resonators get rid of a lot of the higher pitch sounds. Bassy sounds are usually removed by the muffler

I don't like the bassy sound from 2500rpm up to 4500rpm... it is tricky to put "another" resonator at the mid pipe though...

Adam,

How do you like the Ti exhaust? are they deep and loud around 2500rpm to 4500rpm as well??? because I would think they might be similar to nismo due to the same muffler design??

This is what I found, but not too sure if that's true... right after my Fujitsubo headers with Crawford cats, the car's noise goes up A LOT louder though... so you guys reckon it is the header making the noise deeper or the cats? Or just the nature of the nismo exhaust??? Thanx!

cheers,

richie

I am sure that an experienced muffler shop could install the Borla without any problems. I installed mine myself. Since it was the first slip fit exhaust I've ever installed it took me a few tries to get it perfect. I'm not saying not to buy it because of that, I am very happy with mine, but a normal bolt on exhaust is MUCH easier to install!

Definately the cats. Headers barely, if at all, change the sound of the exhaust. Even the stock manifolds don't have resonators in them. Changing out the stock cats to hi flows or test pipes will greatly increase the sound level.
Although, I have read many posts about how the Nismo tends to drone around 3000 rpms even with stock cats. Having hi flows will increase that drone. Whether that is true about the Nismo or not I don't know but I can tell you that the Borla has no drone while cruising on the highway.

i dont reccomend the borla muffler at all. u'll most likley loose power meng.
You can try the resonator idea, or use a small magnaflow muffler in th emidpipe. that'll make ur car a almost silent. the magna flow mufflers don't have any kind of packing, so itll give ur car a very sexy metallic kind of sound..

Why do you say that? Borla got the highest peak HP in the exhuast shot out in sport Z magazine.

I know it doesn't have the highest peak TQ in the shot out, but it doesn't lose TQ. So I'm curious as to why you made the below statement?

If you are shopping for a quiet exhaust I can tell you what not to do:

hes got a very modified NA car (i think). I'd rather not risk changing the ehxuast that much. I know borla gets the most gains :-p So does stillen. a few more exhausts have come out since then. I think HKS or SVRTech or APS have the standing for biggest gains.

Since they aren't in the shot out, what do they claim? Borla claims 23HP gain, which was the highest claim from an exhaust at the time. And they did come out highest in HP in the shot out. So... what are HKS, SVRTech, and APS claiming for their gains?

And if you know Borla gets the most gain, why your original statement?

Disclaimer: I'm not looking for a confrontation, just hard to express a good debate on the internet without sounding mean.

Ive read in Turbo mag that Stillen seems to be marginaly louder than stock and has one of the highest gains of any exhaust.

would a Stillen exhuast work well with single/twin turbo if someone were to add one later?

and is there really any benefits of hi-flo cat/test pipe on NA 350Z?

In the shot out, Stillen did very well, They didn't beat Borla in peak HP, but they did beat Borla in TQ. But the stillen cat-back is heavier then the stock, so people tend not to get it for the weight issue. They tend to want a lighter muffler if they are buying aftermarket.

My buddy and I took one of these kits and intalled it on his Audi s4. Took only an hour, lined up perfect the first time we put it in, fit nice and tight, and sounds good (mind you, the s4 sounds no where near as nice as the Z), and neither my friend nor I have very much mechanical know how.

My point of this reply is that I am curious as to why a slip fit would be considered "ewwwwww", and what is the difference between that and say a Fuji? Pardon my ignorance.

naw i understand where ur coming from. From design borla and stillen were good from the start, X pipe on stillen and H pipe from borla. Since then, HKS has come out w/ an H pipe, i think someone dynoed it in at a 14hp/15trq gain, which is damn good for a exhaust, and i feel SVRTech will do similarly. APS is one of the earliest 2.5' exhausts, and it gets more power thru that. Since then..a lot more quality hpower producing exhausts have come out. I'm not bashin borla, im jus saying its not the best choice for hsi application, since it wil get pretty loud with headers, HFC ect..

I would go with HKS Ti exhaust. Not too loud, yet gives you considerable amount of hp gains. Quality is top notch.
