Default Could get a deal on a used injen exhaust, questions..

I was just offered a Injen Super SES catback exhaust for $500 or so, used. I have never really thought about buying a used exhaust system - is it a bad idea?

Also, can anyone tell me if the injen exhaust will drone at cruising rpms? Under 3.5k or so. And does it sound 'ricey' or is it a sort-of exotic sound?

Members have had problems buying used cat-back exhaust systems because of missing hardware such as unique hangers. You get a deal on price, then spend hours fabrication mounting hardware. Buyer beware.

Most after market exhaust sound "ricey" in my opinion, if your use to V8's. It all depends on what you want. My SES is real loud when accelerating hard, which has a higher pitch but its essential straight pipe out going through the Test pipe resonator and SES one.

I personaly like it for the price but eventualy going to upgrade to "3 pipes when I get a forged motor.

EDIT: most of the sound clips Ive heard in the past and present of 350Z's have realy sounded that way. Haven't heard the "exotic" sound yet. I would be interested to hear one if some one has a clip to the one's they think are exotic.

The nismo exhaust doesn't sound 'ricey', correct? Isn't it basically a louder stock exhaust? What abuot the APS exhaust?

I have been running it for 15K miles with HFCs... no drones, no rasps, and thumbs up everywhere, lol (I even had a guy with an M3

I honestly couldn't be happier with this exhaust. I had good gains on dyno, sounds awesome, looks awesome, lighter than stock... not a single issue with it, no cracks, no drones, no fiberglass, no whathever... and I track the car, so I beat the living hell out of it. I've heard a good share of ****ty exhausts, the injen SES is not one of them.

I heard the exhaust an a N/A Z with resontated test pipes. The exhaust was litterly the worst name brand aftermarket exhaust setup I had ever heard. Obnoxiously loud, raspy, and to top it off, it has TINY piping:

On a N/A setup, there are a few good choices out there. You need to determine if you will run test pipes or not. Good choices for exhausts are IMO:
nismo
greddy evo2
HKS - though very expensive

The APS sounds great if you have a TT, if not, it won't have a pleasing sound.

This is what an exhaust should sound like

I don't know what to tell you, maybe you heard a bad pipes/exhaust combo. I had people on the front straight of mosport raceway come and ask me what I did to the car to make it sound so good, same thing at dragstrip, as I said, I only received compliments from it! I even had a guy with an E46m3 where I had the exhaust intalled tell the mechanic he wanted his car to sound like mine! It sounds different from the charachteristc 350z note, it doesn't sound like a 350z anymore, but I find it very likeable.

Certainly not an exhaust if you intend to go FI, but it's more than adequate for NA (and does make good HP). I dynoed with HFCs and SES so I can't tell you which made what, but I made more HP than cars with more AF mods, couldn't complain there.

That clip is horrible quality
