Nismo tips not straight after install
Has or had anybody ever had a problem with their tips not being the same height? What did you do to fix it or did you?
After the install, my left tip is about 3/16" lower than the right. I asked the guy at the shop if he could just tweak the left metal bracket on the muffler down, which would in turn cause that side to raise up and hence be perfect.
He said that if you did that, that all it would do is stretch the rubber hanger more and it would still be the same. The only way i could see that happening, is if there was something already pressing against the top of the canister, which if it were, would be melting or something, which makes no sense.
He said that the muffler itself is straight (parallel to the body) that it was the tip that was off. He said he would have to unweld, re align, then re weld the tip. He is blind because you can clearly see that it's the whole muffler assembly that needs to come up on the left side, not the tip because the word "Nismo" on the can is not perfectly straight in conjunction with the body work. The N in Nismo is a tad further away from the bumber area, than the "O" is.
Anyway, I don't see why I couldn't just tweak the 3/8" dia. muffler hanger bracket down on the left side a little and get it to be level????

Several ppl have had issues with the Nismo exhaust level inc me. Left side hangs lower. I don't see why you can't just torch the left hanger (when it's off the rubber hangers) and push it down so it's level with the other bracket.
Mine is off about 3/8" but it doesn't bother me too much.
Good luck.

I'm going to give it a shot this weekend. I'm going to find out if one of those little pencil type torches will heat the metal bracket enough to bend it. Also going to get an adjustable c-clamp, the kind a lot of cabinet shops use and a block of wood, preferably hard wood like oak. Even if this trick doesn't work at least they are both items I could use in my tool box anyway.
I'm going to notch out the block of wood and use that to protect the base of the tip, where it's welded to the muffler from the clamp and give it a larger surface area, so that the clamp force is spread out over a larger area and lesson the chance of damaging the tip.
The top part of the clamp will go over the tip/end of the hanger bracket next to the rubber hanger and the bottom part of the clamp over the block of wood and tip. Snug them into place. Will probably use a damp rag next to the rubber hanger but I'm going to be heating the bracket close to the welds on the muffler, that the heat generated probably won't be an issue for the rubber hanger. Then heat the bracket up till it's nice and red or orange color but not too hot as to change the makeup of the metal permenaty.
Once it's all nice and hot, hopefully just a matter of tightening the clamp until it's level and then a tad more because it will most likely sag once it cools and the clamp pressure is released. With any luck it will drop into place on the first try, because I don't really want to have to heat it up more than once and run the risk of weakening the metal too much.
If it works I should go back to the Muffler shop that has been in bussiness for 45 years and said it couldn't be done and say, how ya like my tips?

Fix is easy; left isn't really too low, right is too high (at least this makes it really easy to fix and what I did on mine; looks perfect now). Remove the muffler, slip a pipe over the end of the right hanger (on the car, not the muffler) and bend it down a bit. 15 min job.

I recall seeing a thread about this when I first started lurking here. The guy that posted found he missed a step during the install IIRC. I know when he went back to correct he said it was a breeze and didn't involve modding the hanger brackets or anything, I just don't remember exactly what the issue was. I'm sure a search can find this one.
Not directly related to the Nismo, but I was able to adjust the tip height on my aftermarket exhaust by loosening the bolted connection between the muffler and the midpipe, twisting the muffler in the direction it needed to go, and then retightening the piping. IF there was any slop in there, this would allow a small amount of tip movement.
