Default cut-out exhaust

I tried searching, but came up with nothing...

has anyone ever done this to a Z?

Would I have to get it custom-made at an exhaust shop? Or is there a vendor that sells them here?

thanks

Someone has done everything.

You have headers and test pipes right? The cut-out goes before the resonator.

Measure the size of the pipe
Buy the appropriate cut-out
Cut the exhaust
put the cut-out in place
weld.

Do it.

you could also get an electronic cut-out...at the flip of a switch you can open your side exhaust - that's what I was thinking of doing (http://quicktimeperformance.com/)

We've done these for years on the Supras. Very easy mod and it will allow you to keep a stealth look.

one of the reasons I didn't go this way was that I've read that the electronic cut-out type units will have a poor seal over time...I didn't want to drive a car around with an exhaust leak (nor did I want to buy a replacement unit every year)

I opted to get AAM's single 3" exhaust...not much added resistance compared to a cut-out, and I can add the silencer to interior portion of the muffler to quite things down around my neighborhood.

**if you do this, make sure ot get some sound clips...I never found any sound/video clips from this kind of mod

yeah thats what I was thinking...open up the cutout when at the drag strip, or racing, and on the streets keep it closed.

and thanks for the link, I will talk to some exhaust shops

I just picked up some cut-outs off ebay. I'm going to run one on each side, just about off the test pipes. I'm hoping to have them on the 1st part of Jan., as soon as I get them on I will post up a few vids. and let you know what I think about it.

I had a boost actuated one from APT on my old car. They are great for keeping the stealth look but almost all of them will have a leak at some point.

Would cut-outs even give ur Z any gains??? Doesn't the VQ need some back pressure to preform at its best... For N/A use...

Yes it would work - but it'd probably move the power curve to higher RPMs

**back pressure only reduces power.
-high exhaust exit velocities (lower cross sectional area in exhuast piping) = more power (better scavenging effects)
-low resistant exhaust (larger cross sectional areain exhaus piping, or exhaust dumps) = more power
....trick is to find the right balance of for exhaust flow...it'll also depend on where you want to make power.

IN racing a big budget is alloted to proper length of exhaust piping --- tuning the length, diameter etc...takes lots of time but will make the most power in the end

With cut outs it may not be the "optimal" setup but considering the compromises they made in stock header/y pipe config --- with all that backpressure cut outs arent going to create a loss in power, maybe response but it will not hurt power --- when I ran open header on a high reving 4cyl it created a nice bump in the mid to high end of the powerband and the only negatives I felt were reponse at low rpms (city type rpm)

So if your racing --- open the cut outs---- if your driving in town keep them closed

Best of both worlds without having to spend a ton on an exhaust system just yet ---- BUT it will be LOUD lol people will hear you blocks away at WOT so be careful

my brother has an cut out down pipe with this on his SRT-4 and that is loud as hell! but with the flip of a switch he is stock. It is pretty cool but no big time gains for him, we are still dead even in a race.
