I have actually been tossing around possible ways to do this also. More so since I decided to go with the Stillen Supercharger kit. (Yea I know alot of people downplay it here but its a good starting point for me at this time )
Im going to play with the idea more when I have my Widebody kit put on sometime this summer. Have some of the rear rocker notched out for a cleaner look since I have some ground clerance issues where I live.
Another FI mod I have been thinking about is having my OEM hood cut to allow the Stillen SC to sit visible. This is mainly due to the hood Stillen offers looks like a$$ on the Z.

Only possible concern is how/if cutting pretty much the whole center of the hood out would effect the supercharger at all. And how it will effect the structure of the hood. Wide body is still a good 6-8 month away but the SC is going on in the next month. So we shall see how the hood comes out

my main question whether its doable, would be streetability... i really dont know how well the popo's would enjoy flames out my sides... how often would i get flames out the pipes, with no cats?

most of the time you only get flames out staight pipes when you shift - usualy happens to FI/nitrous ppl b/c they run pretty rich.
are you lowered? The Z is already pretty low, so there's no too much clearance. If you do it, make sure to post up some sound clips ~ I'd love to hear. (During my header install, I was so tempted to stop work and start the car up w/ just headers/TP's...but I wanted to finish quickly)

Streetable? Not likely!
My GT3 350Z uses a side exhaust as a design feature. The fiberglass Nissan bodywork has 'sidepods' which allow the exhaust to wraparound the driver's cockpit. A custom fabricated stepped header leads into a 3" collector and Magnaflow race muffler.
Despite taking the step of having the headers, collector and muffler tip ceremaic coated, HEAT is one big drawback. After a practice session, I sat in the car trying to deliver some feedback to my crew and within minutes was sweating like sitting in a sauna! When the airflow stops in a racecar, you can really feel the heat soak.
