Default In the name of stupidity and experimentation

Ok so here's what I did... Just for sh*ts and grins.....

Today happened to be a dry, clear day.... so I pulled the filters on my 07z, reset the ecu, started it up and let it idle..

so far so good.. no idle issues, no cel, nada..
hit the gas and you could feel the increase in throttle response very easily..
so I decided to drive it.....

1 mile just babying it.. feels normal..
2 miles down the road I get on it and that's where i really feel it in the butt dyno...this thing gives me a nice push in the seat and the tires spin like nuts...
4 miles down the road I run it hard and shutdown at about 50 (note this is a private street I own) and I'm pretty impressed.

Go back home, babying it, check the airboxes for debris and all is well..filters replaced (reminds himself to buy a couple K&N drop ins...)

Unfortunately I couldn't dyno this, but it's interesting to see what the response could be like with either pop chargers or a dual cai setup.

I think the 07 guys will be very happy... even though it's going to cost a bit more than the single intake setup.. lol

--

Now i'm almost considering building custom intakes/maf adapter for this.. just for the hell of it... and then dyno it...

If JWT, AEM, Nismo, etc doesn't want to put in the effort on the new models, some of us home-brew guys will lol

--

That's all for now..

Back to waxing my 07 Z.. as that's about all I can while waiting for everything I ordered to come in..

If you can get the diameter of the pipe the MAF sensor is in and the bolt spacing on the sensor i can check and see how much a machine shop would charge to cut it out.

I'll measure it in the morning....

I have another really crazy idea... I talked with a few people who think it will work.. but I need 2 07 airboxes as test subjects..

Basically my idea is this... The airbox is restrictive, yes? Then why not take the face off of it, leave a flat filter exposed and fabricate a retainer cliper to keep the flat filter on.

Yes a conical filter design is ultimate, but we're just talking a short ram type of setup here as you are simply sucking air in (granted the air is warm with an open face like that but nothing worse than a pop charger without an external duct..

Does anyone know where to land 2 07 airboxes on the cheap so I can cut them up and fabricate something? If I can get this to work, this will be a super cheap DIY.. basically hack the front of the airbox, put a K&N drop in in the retainer clip and you are good to go...

Yes.. the idea could be considered stupid... but in my short time here.. i've seen stranger things than this...

07 boxes are not gonna be easy to come by....lol

also you woul dneed to do dyno testing before and after to show evidence of performance gain

It's either that or I'm going to find 2 2006 tubes + maf adapters and plug the 07 Maf in and see what happens...

I'm wondering if I can find the 06 tubes or G tubes with the adapter cheap somewhere to experiment :P
