Default MD Plenum Spacer Install Help

Attempted to install my new 5/16th MD Isothermal spacer. While reassembling I followed the instructions to put the correct sized bolts in the correct numbered lower plenum slots. The long bolts fit but the medium bolts fall in without hitting any threads. I did not leave the stock gasket in btw. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am not sure what I did wrong. Thanks in advance.

are you using the supplied bolts from MD? There's about 11 shorter bolts that go around the outside...are those the ones that aren't fitting correctly? if you have pics, it's make it a bit easier to help.

The 70 mm bolts on the lower plenum fit, but the medium length bolts do not fit right. I am talking about bolts on lower plenum, not the shorter ones on outer edge of plenum. Wish i had pics, but broke my camera recently. lucky me.

Then something is wrong. The bolts supplied by Motordyne should work. Measure the bolts. Are they the length stated on the packing slip?

I was going by the numbering system supplied in the instructions. I did not measure the bolts. just put them in the corresponding mubered slots. Will have to measure tomorrow then.

You reuse the stock bolts on the lower plenum.

The bolts in the MD kit are for the upper plenum.

nice catch...something wasn't adding up. The ISO thermal gasket doesn't add much thickness, if any, so the lower plenum OE bolts are re-used.

Yep - since there is no space difference, use the stock bolts. The supplied bolts go in the middle/outer parts of the upper plenum. Good luck and bolt the nuts to MD's supplied spec.

ok i finished the install with no real issues other than the strut bar being a pain in the **** to get back on right. Everything is idling fine. Go for a quick test drive and hear no issues, get on it one time 3rd to 4th gear and then I start hearing a loud knocking noise so I immediately pull over and shut it off. I am scared I have messed something up but I have no idea what it could be. This sucks. I rechecked everything before leaving. . . I am racking my brain to figure out what happened.

Was this ever resolved?

So far, I plan on ordering this on Monday (as soon as I can find out if it is worthwhile to get the MREV2 along with it while everything is taken apart (I have an '03).

Okay nevermind.

Further searching (yes, I've been on this for a couple of days) has revealed, once again, that Wired 24/7 has already done this and posted an EXCELLENT review of his results.

Thanks once again, Wired.

yeah it was my fault. something had fell down in the motor during the install when i wasn't looking. Found metal shavings there, cleaned it out and runs fine now. Happy with the mod. Thanks to Tony again for taking time to trouble shoot over the phone, great guy.

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply, Jumpin! I'm glad to hear that's all it was.

I've been reading about these spacers and lower collectors for hundreds of hours now and, if there is one thing I've learned, it is that Tony does rock and his attitude and approach inspires confidence on both the product and the company that sells them. This is a mod I will definitely be doing... starting tomorrow with my order.
