Default haha diamondplate

haha well the diamond plate is not a huge people pleasing appearance. Oh well its not on your car. I made this to see just how hard it was going to be to fab around the back corner edges. My intention is to build a wilson style intake. You usually see them on mustangs and big motors. I dont know if I want to just get rid of the whole upper plenum all together. Its going to be kinda hard to get to the bolts if this thing is made to flow right. As far as this intake? I just dropped it off at the powder coater. I will have it on the car by sat. I'm not really interested in dyno numbers. I did what was basically stated earlier. Plasma cut the top, milled the deck and back (to get an easy weld) and welded in plates. The underside is smooth (no bolts for the center). Welp guys thanks for the comments mike

If it works well, who cares what it's made from.

Well at least when you stand on it you won't slip.

Default tooooooooo big

Welp you guys were right its too big for the hood to close on the g. However I will not let this thing beat me. I will deck the bottom of the lower intake manifold about a 1/4 of an inch or more. Depending on clearance issues. I realize i might actually take out the forward and aft bolt holes while decking the lower intake. That means I will have to weld some bungs for and aft. No problem. I just cant do it till monday. Welp sorry about this guys let me get it hammered out and I'll let you know how it goes. One question though. My 06 (rev up) lower intake is a little different than the old style (non rev up). I read some where that since the itake runners are so short I loose mid range power. I also read that if you go to the old stlye (non rev up) with the space it is considered optimum? Is this so and has anyone done this. I want to say motordyne said something about this. After all this stuff and trouble i think I will dyno it. Talk at you guys soon mike

welp I was on the lathe today for about 4 hrs. Man cutting down the bottom side of the lower intake manifold isnt all that easy. I was able to get a little more than 1/4 inch off of it. I tried to take pictures with my phone but they sucked a$$. I think i"m going to install tomarrow and see if the hood closes. Hope fully I wont need to cut more. I'm already having to add bungs to this thing. However in cutting this I noticed the upper and lower intakes (stock) are nowhere near being close to match. This is starting to get tricky. I'll post pics soon mike

Not a fan of diamond plating, but the workmanship look tops. It'll be cool to see the HP gains on the dyno. :-)

last pic. notice the width of the both parts of the intake . I actually had to mill them both down. By doing this I managed to really mess up the flow of the not so good factory ports. So I ports matched the manifolds and gasket clearance wasnt an issue. more pics coming. mike

You've got to dyno this afterwards. I'm really curious to see what the gains and power curves look like compared to stock/crawford/motodyne/etc...

I bet it loses power everywhere except the very top end, if anything. But I respect the hard work that it took to make something like this.
