Default Demystified: Cai + Water *PICS ADDED*

hey whats up..

Finally got my Injen Cold Air Intake Intalled.... Combined with the Ichiba Y-pipe, yesterday....

first off... I can say with confidence, there is a definite power gain.. no doubt... I did not get to test drive each part seperately, but the combination has definitely added some gains.... matching up very nicely to my custom 3" exhaust....

the Sound is great... the intake really opens up in the higher Revs... ! and the Y-pipe has definitely added a different exahust note !...

SOOOO, note even 24hrs of having the Cold air intake on.... I drove in a rain storm... both street and highway.... water spraying and everything.....

I almost drove myself nuts trying reading here to figure out what application to use... Short ram or Cold air..... so I stuck with my initially thoughts of going cold air..

getting back to the rain...... I did not purchase the bypass valve nor the hydro shield for the Injen intake....

all this to say... is that I experience absolutely no difference in engine response, sluggyness, or whatever with the rain.... the car responded exacltly as if it was dry... no idling problems nothing !!

to top it off.... the Injen Intake filter sits completely exposed in the front grill, I bent over to look at it whn I parked in my Garage from the rain... and it was wet.... proving that the water spray etc... is not enought to get sucked up the entire tubing...

so water spray, rain or whatever does not do anything.....

just wanted to add my 2 cents

Thanks

Tony.

The only time will really affect a air filter is if it fully submerges. Just be careful for flash floods and what not.

what would happen if my popcharger filter falls out for a few days. How bad can my engine get?

hopefully your maf sensor didnt get dirty, I know that they sell a product which you can spray on your maf to clean it.

If your car is still running without issues then you got lucky..

Cheers,

Yes, running strong. After I found out, i put octane booster and WOT like 5 times to clean it out. Not exactly sure if it is clean though.

wait till you drive over a deep puddle and i am not even talking about driving through flash flood conditions . you are crazy to not put a bypass for the intake. dont be cheap. cuz that $50 piece will save you from have to rebuild a hydrolocked engine.. it happens all the time with honda guys being cheap on the bypass. dont let it happen to you! dont be cheap! its not a honda.

just my 2 cents. that will save you a pretty penny at the end.

Put your hands near the filter and have a buddy rev it hard. Feel that??? Is that enough suction to draw water up nearly 3 feet of pipe???? Will enough water enter the engine before your MAF blows and the car goes into limp mode before you truly hydrolock???? I love the internet. Hilter once said "The bigger the lie, the more people will believe". This is also why I haven't stuck my shop vac. under the hood yet. Imagine the HP then!!!

Yeah, I've never had any hydrolock issues with any of my CAI intake setups. I have the AEM bypass valve but got lazy and didn't install it on my CAI, but eventually will I guess. Also the "hydroshield" does not prevent hydrolock. It just keeps the filter clean. Only the AEM and Nismo intakes offer proven bypass valves (AEM > NISMO - it pioneered this technology)
