Default Washing K&N Filter?

I know I can wash it, but do I have to use their 'recharge kit'? Or is water or something else ok? Anything in particular that I should know? Thanks

I toss the filter in a bucket of soapy water
rinse
dry
spray with WD-40.

30,000 miles and the filter is fine.

The recharge kit is around 9 dollars and will last you a long time.

Use a hose with a sprayer. Spray everything off the outer surface. Apply the cleaner to the filter and then spray from the inside. This keeps crud from building up in the filter. Then sit it in the sun for a little while untill it is dry. Spray on the recharge oil until you have an even red coat and let it dry.

you can just soak it with simple green and let that sit in for 30 mins and then just rinse it out in the sink, you can repeat the cleaning if you really want it clean
