Default Question on exhaust (not asking what's best)

whats up guys. ive been deciding on an exhaust.

and ive noticed that many people just have simple catbacks and not all TD.

honestly, is there a huge HP gain over a single exhaust (dual tip) and a TD exhaust (true dual)?

im thinking about making a custom exhaust for the Z.

I put on a true dual system from Fast Intentions(2.5" piping) on my '07 to help my engine breath a little better at higher rpm's,as it seemed to be reluctant to rev past about 5500rpm.What a difference! I'm revving this thing to near redline all the time now.It doesn't seem to hurt the bottom end any either, now that the computer has adjusted to it.I don't see how a single exhaust could give this level of upper end performance, especially on the HR engine that was bred to rev.The stock muffler on my Z is one of the largest and heaviest mufflers I have ever come across, especially on a car this size.

^^^^^ + 10000000
Fast Intention true dual 2.5 sounds closest to stock and one of the best gains.
Just think about how many V8 or twin turbo Z have a single pipe exhaust?

Single works fine. Its all a personal preference, weight, sound, price.

I actually have never heard a single exhaust to be honest.

I do know mine and a few of my fellow Z buds have enjoyed the gains and sound of our TD exhaust

I would think a single would give you more TQ then a TD but at lower RPM...for daily use.

Have you listened to the Exhaust clips??

If you do make a custom though please let us all hear it...

No, I already have a custom HKS 3" Titanium single that I fabricated. I can try to get some clips up in a little bit. Single is going to be louder than your TD but I love it. With that said, lemme go get on these clips.

hey thanks guys for the info. ya idk, i always knew that TD would give the motor more breathe.

but about customizing my exhaust...i talked to some guy who has a custom and i saw the drawing that it was a single. (not single exit, but single to the headers). and this thing sounds amazing. and he mentioned that he got 2.5" piping for more low end power.

but the bottomline, i just dont wanna go out of my way with customizing and not getting the full potential power of an exhaust u know? and i mean, some people say here and there that all exhausts will give the same 3rwhp.

but anywayz, heres a clip of the plan.

You wont get any restriction out of a single 3". Trust me. I have a 03 with test pipes, y pipe and custom single. Stock air box with a k&n and 1/2 spacer. and I made 261whp @ performance factory. Alot of people would say that prety impressive....just something to think about....

Joe, I've also been thinking about doing the same setup as that guy has (the single cat back). I also believe he put on headers and test pipes. I'm going to buy piping and muffler from borla. Not sure what I'm gona go with for the test pipes yet and there aren't any aftermarket headers for the 07 yet unfortunatly.

I really want to do a single cat back, but I'm just worried about back pressure (too much of it, that is...) So I've been looking at sizes of what companies made their single cat-backs. DC Sports has a single cat back, and I belive it's 70mm (2.75in). Right now, that's all I have.

I'm actually doing more research today. I was going to start thread but now that this one is here I'll just post what I find in here and my thoughts about it.

Very interesting thread! On my 04 Z I had b4 I lost her with a JiC single gutted cats. It sounded Great i think I rememeber getting compliments. But I have Pro-1 Cat back with there Y-pipe and it is LOUD. Im thinking about selling it and going to a single. Just theres not enough clips out there for me to be 2 sure with singles. I have ordered the X02 TD exhaust which is 2.5" I believe. Just debating. What type exhaust was that on the video posted??
