Silencing the NISMO
I know most members here are already rolling their eyes just the title, but yeah, I'd really like my NISMO exhaust to be a little quieter. I like the sound and the looks are okay, but I think it is too loud at WOT.
I like a stealthier approach on the road than even the NISMO exhaust provides. I understand it is one of the quietest AM exhausts, but I'd like to drop it a few more db's.
I was thinking of having a shop customize me a midpipe with two resonators or silencers. Any ideas?

In the sound clips it sounds ripping and snorting and much louder. Exactly which Fuji is quieter than a NISMO? I'd really like to check into that idea. In all the threads I've read here, no one ever talks about how quiet any of the AM exhausts are... except the NISMO. Thanks for the heads-up on that. I'll check it out.
What is the least restrictive way to put a damper on things without swapping exhausts?

i've heard fuji and nismo in person, both with hfc, and the fuji is definitely not as loud. only external factor could be the fuji is on a g35c and the nismo is on a Z. i don't think that would really matter though.
anyway you could modify the mid-pipe like you said. it would add some restriction and in theory restrict power, but exhausts don't really make much power on the vq anyway.

It looks like that's the direction I'm leaning, but I don't wanna butcher up a brand new NISMO system. I guess whatever I do will require some cutting? I'd hate to do that, which is why I was contemplating replacing the entire mid-pipe.
I really figured there would not be much difference between the Fuji and the NISMO since they are almost identicle.

When I saw Dave had replied to this thread, I thought "Oh shi.."
Thanks for being kind.
You answered your own question Dave: It is a beautiful exhaust and I want it. It belongs on the car. I like keeping with the Nissan theme, I just don't want it to be that loud.
Some people say they quieten down after a few hundred miles. I'm beginning to think they are just going deaf instead.
What say you? Is it going to remain at this exact level?

Btw, I also have the Isothermal MREV2, MD 5/16 spacer, and a Stillen CAI connected to a carbon fiber intake tube.
I LOVED the sound of that combo with the stock exhaust. It was beautiful, man. I want the OEM sound (maybe a little deeper/throatier) but with the NISMO looks and etching. Damn.

That way I could keep the nicer look and etched tips and historical value of the NISMO. I don't even have my OEM anymore. The dealer kept it.

Instead of butchering my NISMO, I'm considering just having another mid-pipe fabricated with the same diameter but with some type of extra silencer, I'm just not sure which.
Later, when I get my next Z, it will be my daily driver and my current Z will be my "tuner car" and I'll swap out the mid-pipe again and restore my NISMO.
The question is: What method is best at knocking off a few db without raising the pitch?
