Default Intake Shootout

What's up everyone.. I'm New to the Nissan and 350z world. I'm coming from the Hondas. I have a turbo'd si.. I love the car.. But thats besides the point. Since I've never had a Nissan or a 350 for that matter. What intakes would u reccomend?? I was considering cai from aem. But I don't know if there are more cons to that since most pics of 350's with intakes seem to all be short ram.. What you guys thing.. Since most of you probly have intakes in already.

Hi, before asking the most offensive of noob questions, you might want to read through the Top 100 Questions thread as it already addresses this. Click on the link to it in my sig.

There's a lot of controversy about intakes. Generally, intakes used on models before 2006 increase performance. Intakes used on 2006 models have been rumored reduce performance. I used a K&N Drop-in on my '06 and I'm thoroughly satisfied.

just do K&N drop out and be done with it.

if you're really worried sound, invest in a sound system

or just pay an assraping for an exhaust system and gain like 2hp.

Go to a 350Z meets and look at intakes. You will see an endless variety. Buy what suits your needs.

You need to decide whether you really want a CAI, a short ram, or a drop in. I did a lot of research, and some trial and error too, before I settled on the best one for my needs.

buy an intake for sound or bling, not for performance. (coming from a person with an ARC intake, lol). Most swear by keeping the stock airbox and dropping in a better filter (KN/Amsoil/nismo) as this is cost effective and minimizes heat soak.

Ok. Well I didn't mean this to be a noob question. I'm really not a noob with modding at all. I just wasn't sure because the motor setup is alot diff then in hondas. And I wasn't sure if heatsoak was a huge issue with sri. I'd rather sri over cai.. I didn't consider a drop in filter because I only heard about those being mostly popular with wrx, and sti's. Not so much non turbo'd cars.. I guess I'll hit or miss.. And yea I know this was on the newbie sections. But personal opinions really arn't. I wanted a more of a personal opinion answer rather then a technical answer. Thnks guys.

That is, if you do a cat-back. I gained 15 from the true dual.

I would just leave the stock intake on unless you wanna lose torque and make more sounds that just wastes more fuel trying to flooring to get to its higher rpm sound activation. I guess some of us learned the hard way.

You'd rather have a personal opinion than a technical answer? Who do you suppose posted all those replies in the threads when you search? In addition to what you call the 'noobie sections', if you searched for SRI and CAI you would have found dozens of useful threads, including the following. No way all that info is going to be repeated again, just for you, in one thread.

Why would you ask people for a personal opinion to a technical issue? That sorta makes no sense

Intakes are the LEAST important thing you can do to this car - you could save it for last, or not even do it at all if you don't want.

Ah, are you trying tostart something? How cute.

Actually, I don't! I got A's all thru school in English. I tutored a lot of other students to at least B's and definitely wrote pretty decent papers in college. That would be an oxymoron telling me that. Why do you think I put that icon in response to your post? Do I need to teach you a lesson in Psychology as well?
Anyways, I meant that many people floor the gas pedal to get the sound, with the intake, of course, because you mainly feel the power and hear the sound in the upper rpms. Did you understand that? I don't think it can get anymore clear than that.
