Default JWT Popcharger Oiling

So I washed and oiled my popcharger at the beginning of spring, and it had the blue tint again. I've had the car out since April, so it's only been a couple months.

The filter has already lost all the blue color and is dry to the touch.

Did I under-oil it?
Isn't it only necessary to oil it each season?
Is it alright the way it is? Or should I take it off and oil it again?

I see pictures of peoples' popchargers, and they're always blue, and I'm sure they don't oil it weekly...

Thanks for any input.

Did you do a couple of coats of oil? If you only did one, you definitely under-oiled.

Sounds like you went light if you see white. Pull, clean, re-oil and do 2X. I have 3 cars with filters like these, I've never seen any of them go white between cleanings.

the k&n kit says to oil it once, then look for any light areas and oil it again. You definitely under-oiled it and the filter isnt working as it should. I would just re clean and oil it to be sure.

I put the first coat, let it sit for 10 minutes.
Put a second coat to get the areas that were still white, let it sit for another 10 minutes.
Then applied a third coat to completely cover all the leftover white areas. Let it sit for 30 mins before installing back on the car. Filter is now a solid blue.

You should be good to go now, and don't worry if there are some drips around the base (I usually let cone stand up to dry), just wipe off any excess with a rag from around the inside of the base where it clamps on the intake tube.

I've been using these for >10 years, trial and error you get a sense for how much is enough. Yours sounds pretty much like what I do - two coats with a third for touch up if I miss anything.

You have to really over-oil it to death to have problems with oil hitting the MAF, etc. I suspect sometimes people who have that issue sprayed the cone from the inside, LOL!

In the future, the other thing to remember is really clean it well following the instructions and let dry completely before oiling again. I usually let it sit overnight after cleaning to ensure it's completely dry - water repels oil.

I cleaned mine at 20000 miles of use. I live in Socal. Buy K/N recharger kit and follow the instruction. Just clean it every year.

After oiling, I use a tooth brush to get into the crevices.

Anyways, the blue color is not going to last long.

You could put the filter in a bucket of water with food coloring. See if that makes it blue.

When my Daddy used to race motocross, he'd soak the air filter in 2-stroke oil/gas mix. Worked pretty well.
